and Oslo, ISS (Den Hague), ICT (Enschede), WAU (Wageningen), the Potsdam Institute<br />

for Climate Impact Research, and others.<br />

The teaching program includes three course modules spread over the first and third<br />

year of the program. The first module provides a sound theoretical background, including<br />

knowledge and skills to address the complex and interrelated problems of<br />

development. The second and third modules are structured along disciplinary lines<br />

in economics, social sciences, and ecology, with a special emphasis on theory and<br />

methodology. <strong>ZEF</strong> also offers training in generic tools and skills. In lieu of the second<br />

and third module, individual students may visit laboratories at the University of<br />

<strong>Bonn</strong> or other co-operating institutes in Germany or abroad to learn specific research<br />

methods.<br />
