and Oslo, ISS (Den Hague), ICT (Enschede), WAU (Wageningen), the Potsdam Institute
for Climate Impact Research, and others.
The teaching program includes three course modules spread over the first and third
year of the program. The first module provides a sound theoretical background, including
knowledge and skills to address the complex and interrelated problems of
development. The second and third modules are structured along disciplinary lines
in economics, social sciences, and ecology, with a special emphasis on theory and
methodology. ZEF also offers training in generic tools and skills. In lieu of the second
and third module, individual students may visit laboratories at the University of
Bonn or other co-operating institutes in Germany or abroad to learn specific research
methods.
