Marquis Boniface de Castellane, son of Boni de Castellane, a diplomat, was French chargé d’affaires in London in 1940. His famous father was a wealthy supporter of Charles Maurras. Everyone I met in Cahors mentioned it. De Monzie’s sole legatee was his secretary, Madame Debrand, which intimates that Ramy Debrand was the woman with whom he shared his life. She seems, anyway, to have been a different kind of governante from the two housekeepers he had, one in each of his Lotois demesnes.
