– RAVITAILLEMENT – 1870-1871, LA COMMUNE DE<br />

VILLEMOMBLE DÉPARTMENT DE LA SEINE A LA<br />

FRIEND ENGLISH SOCIETY, the frame screw-fitted<br />

gilt metal with beaded border <strong>and</strong> thick glass to<br />

either side (slightest chip to edge of obverse glass at<br />

10 o’clock), in maroon fitted leather case. Choice,<br />

virtually as issued. £300-400<br />

Villemomble is about 9 miles to the east of Paris. The cataloguers<br />

are unable to unravel quite how the English Society was able to<br />

send supplies to the Commune.<br />

with tiny light surface marks, otherwise both attractive<br />

good extremely fine with reflective fields. (2) £30-50<br />

268 Leopold II (1747-1792), cast <strong>and</strong> chased uniface<br />

Bronze Plaquette, unsigned, thought to be North<br />

Italian, P. LEOPOLODO [I]NPERATORE, bust left,<br />

wearing the Order of the Golden Fleece. Extremely<br />

fine, contemporary. £40-60<br />

Leopold II was Holy Roman Emperor <strong>and</strong> King of Hungary <strong>and</strong><br />

Bohemia 1790-1792, Archduke of Austria <strong>and</strong> Gr<strong>and</strong> Duke of<br />

Tuscany which is presumably where this piece is from.
