214 The Church <strong>and</strong> Bishops, Lead Medal, 1688, a<br />
Jesuit <strong>and</strong> a monk with a pickaxe attempt to<br />
undermine the church, THE GATES OF HELL SHALL<br />
NOT PREVAILE AGAINST IT, rev medallic busts of<br />
the seven bishops, edge UPON THIS ROCK I HAVE<br />
BUILT MY CHURCH, 40mm (MI i 626/43). Good very<br />
fine <strong>and</strong> extremely rare. £400-500<br />

Silver Medal, 1688, by C Wermuth, a Jesuit, Father<br />
Petre, seated on a lobster at the seashore, holds the<br />
infant prince, a French ship off the shore waits for<br />
them, rev shield displaying windmill within rosary,<br />
31mm (E 300; MI i 643/71). Toned, good very fine with<br />
faint traces of original lustre. £300-400<br />
216 William <strong>and</strong> Mary (1688-1694), Coronation 1689,<br />
Silver Medal, by J Roettiers, conjoined busts right,<br />
rev Jove hurls his thunderbolt at Phaethon, 35mm<br />
