Old Boys scored all their points in the second half, courtesy of two converted tries and a penalty. The Marist scrum improved as the game progressed, pushing Northern off their ball numerous times at Tahuna. Northern’s backs played well but Marist’s tackling often stopped them before the advantage line. The game was reportedly a rather scrappy affair, but good discipline by Marist, unlike Northern, gave them the win. Murray Gane Plumbing sponsored Marist scored four tries through Norman Lima, Anthony Kahura (2) and Ace Masalo. Logan McLaughlin, who earlier in the day refereed an under-85kg game in Te Awamutu, arrived in time to take the field as a second half replacement. He was on target with three penalties.
