The inaugural event will be held in the old barn at the Waikato Events Centre, which for many years has lain derelict. Rumour has it that the barn is haunted and that no-one dares venture there after dark because of the grisly wails and spooky moans that ring out across the grounds around the time of the full moon. Entertainment coordinator Meg Davies says as a community event, part of the Winter Show’s brief is to cater widely for the community, so activities for youth are important. “For me, the satisfaction of organising this event will come from seeing young people enjoying themselves in a safe, fun and ‘scary’ environment. ‘‘Every day I come to work to find more gruesome and disturbing props filling the office, which is great because I’m watching the event come together before my eyes - but the real fun will come on the night. “We are excited to have glam-rock band Rose Petals and Confetti performing from 8pm - 10pm. ‘‘There will also be a team of hideous and frightening ghouls, ghosts and freaks to alarm those brave enough to venture into the old barn.” Volunteer and props manager Faye Cole CRIMELINE TC290410SP08 NIGHTMARE BRIDE: Props manager Faye Cole Baker with one of her many creations that will terrify the adventurous at ‘Friday Fright Night’. Baker of Ohaupo has been working hard making props for the show. It has taken approximately two months of solid and inspired work from her. More volunteers have also recently come on board to work on props and wardrobe. Rain adds to good news Precious rainfall over the district in recent days lifted spirits for farmers already buoyed by Fonterra’s revised higher payout. Pirongia had the highest rainfall over the past week with 35mm, followed by Pokuru 27, Arohena 20, Kihikihi 19, Pukeatua 18, Parawera 17 and Ngahinapouri 13. if you arrive dressed as a ghoul, entrance to the show is half price. Friday Fright Night will be held on Friday, April 30 (just two days after the full moon) from 6pm to 10pm. The ghoul competition is at 7pm. Entry to the Winter Show is; Adults $12, Children (ages 5 to 14) $6. Family Ticket (2 adults and up to 3 children $30), students and pensioners (ID required) $10, preschoolers (under 5) free. The Winter Show runs from Friday, April 30, through to Sunday, May 2. The excellent sound system and the large numbers of seating provided ensured that our Te Awamutu people of advancing age did feel comfortable and will return in future years.
