C-Yes 2 IT / Life Skills Program at Central School
In the 2009/10 school year, Central
school implemented the C-YES
(Central Youth Employment Services)
program in partnership with the
Okanagan Boys & Girls Club.
The main goal of the program is to
keep at-risk youth in school, while
providing them with opportunities
for employment in the community.
After a few months of implementation,
the youth in the program expressed
a need for basic skills and knowledge
to help them become more work and
life ready. As such, we proudly
implemented a Life Skills course to
compliment the C-YES program.
The course was delivered largely
through experts and members in our
very own community!
Students engaged in topics ranging
from budgeting, housing, mental
health, basic cooking, self-care,
smoking awareness, drug & alcohol
awareness, employment standards,
and effective communication, just to
name a few.

Yes-2-IT “Trades Awareness” Fair
Constable Neil Bruce Middle School hosted a Grade 7
―Trades Awareness Fair‖ on June 1st.
Approximately 300 students took part in this event and got to experience
the following hands-on trades related activities: Mechanic, Plumber,
Masonry, Carpentry and Construction Coordinator. �

Students also put on a volunteer BBQ
for our community and received
training in WorldHost.
The course culminated with a fun,
team-building camping trip that
included a variety of survival skills
for the students.

Overall the student feedback was
that the course was a great
success. The students said that
they would love to see it continue
for years to come! �
