role <strong>in</strong> “The Ledge.” Karl Swenson has an appeal<strong>in</strong>g “accented” role as “Boris.”<br />

Scene: The race beg<strong>in</strong>s!<br />

“The Man Who Lost” April 25, 1959 *** B-<br />

Ida Lup<strong>in</strong>o directs this st<strong>and</strong>ard tale. It’s a decent, moody drama but not a<br />

particularly impressive one. Nice dust storm, however! Jack Elam co-stars <strong>in</strong> the last act<br />

of the drama.<br />

-Chapter 2 from 2:57 to 3:19: “Lead-In D” (Police Force) Bars 5-6, 6, 9-13.<br />

Scene: Palad<strong>in</strong> sneaks up on the sleep<strong>in</strong>g killer.<br />

-Chapter 2 from 4:26 to 4:57: “Lead-In C” (Police Force) Bars 3-11. Scene:<br />

Wildhorse station. Palad<strong>in</strong> arrives with his captured killer, Ben Coey (nicely played by<br />

Mort Mills). Remember Mills <strong>in</strong> Psycho? He’s done a lot of television, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g The<br />

Virg<strong>in</strong>ian <strong>in</strong> a <strong>Herrmann</strong>-scored episode that co-starred Leonard Nimoy (just before<br />

Nimoy’s role <strong>in</strong> the Star Trek series).<br />

-Chapter 4 from 7:22 to 8:25: “Night” (Police Force) Bars 11-28.<br />

“The Return of Roy Carter” May 2, 1959 ***** A+<br />

This is quite an excellent episode with a stern no-nonsense Palad<strong>in</strong> “persuad<strong>in</strong>g”<br />

Roy Carter (now admirably played by Clu Gulager) to help him rescue Chapla<strong>in</strong> Robert<br />

April <strong>in</strong> blizzard-hit Bald Mounta<strong>in</strong>. The story was written by Gene Roddenberry who<br />

really hit the mark this time. The rugged w<strong>in</strong>ter location shoot<strong>in</strong>g really helps with the<br />
