Hello fellow San Diego <strong>USPTA</strong> Tennis Professi<strong>on</strong>als:<br />
Labor Day always marks the passage into a new tennis seas<strong>on</strong>.<br />
Summer programs and camps are over for the year while ladies<br />
leagues and after-school junior programs are beginning for another<br />
year. Hope your summer was successful and prosperous,<br />
and that fall programs are off to a good start for all of you.<br />
The Mercury Insurance Open (MIO): The MIO at the La Costa Resort and Spa<br />
generously provided two free tickets to many of our San Diego Divisi<strong>on</strong> tennis<br />
pros. I hope you were able to take advantage of some w<strong>on</strong>derful women’s pro<br />
tennis viewing again this year.<br />
<strong>USPTA</strong> Tennis Professi<strong>on</strong>al Free Lunch (TPFL) and Seminar: The La Jolla<br />
Beach and Tennis Club hosted a <strong>USPTA</strong> Tennis Professi<strong>on</strong>al Free Lunch and<br />
Seminar <strong>on</strong> September 5 th . Our divisi<strong>on</strong> TPFLs are an <strong>on</strong>-going series of <strong>on</strong>-court<br />
seminars and lunches for the pros hosted by the divisi<strong>on</strong>. This is an opportunity<br />
for all of us to get together to share knowledge, experience, techniques, insights,<br />
etc. I hope many of you were able to attend.<br />
Holiday Giving: Keep in mind the “holiday giving seas<strong>on</strong>” is just around the<br />
corner. The San Diego Divisi<strong>on</strong> has a traditi<strong>on</strong> of collecting goods for the homeless,<br />
underprivileged, and abused of our community. More informati<strong>on</strong> will be<br />
sent later; please c<strong>on</strong>sider putting out collecti<strong>on</strong> boxes at your club.<br />
On the Nati<strong>on</strong>al Level:<br />
The <strong>USPTA</strong> World C<strong>on</strong>ference <strong>on</strong> Tennis: The <strong>USPTA</strong> World C<strong>on</strong>ference<br />
<strong>on</strong> Tennis was held in beautiful M<strong>on</strong>terey, California, September 16-22. The<br />
c<strong>on</strong>ference provides an opportunity to meet the best and the brightest talent in<br />
our industry, and participate in c<strong>on</strong>tinuing educati<strong>on</strong> offered during the fi ve days<br />
of <strong>on</strong>-court and classroom seminars and workshops.<br />
New CEO: As most of you know, our respected CEO of thirty plus years, Tim<br />
Heckler, has announced that he will be retiring at the end of <str<strong>on</strong>g>2012</str<strong>on</strong>g>. John Embree<br />
has been hired as the new CEO for the <strong>USPTA</strong>. The <strong>USPTA</strong> is indebted to Tim<br />
for his 30 years of service, his passi<strong>on</strong>, and commitment to the working tennis<br />
professi<strong>on</strong>al.<br />
Enjoy the change to some cooler weather, and I hope to see you <strong>on</strong> the courts!<br />
