NEWLANDS COAL
Glenden Pioneer
Published for Newlands Employees and the Glenden Community March 2012
Jo Bell, Glenden's wild life carer,
would like to say a huge thank you
to Newlands Coal for their support,
especially for providing the funds to
allow the construction of a bird room
to provide more natural conditions
for the birds and new arrivals. Again,
thank-you for the materials to build a
safe yard for the joeys to exercise in.
Thanks to Chris and his team who
are always happy to help - even
babysitting when needed.
Thank you also to Shane Lynd for permission to build and
providing the star pickets for the fencing.
To the Glenden community - well, it is you that care enough to
stop and pick up an injured or orphaned creature and get it to
me, and check up on its progress. Well Done. Also ringing
around each other to find a ride to Mackay to drop off a creature
to the vets or pick up some urgent food/medication. Thank you!
I'm sorry I am unable to show you around our facilities, but we
try to keep human contact with the wild life at a minimum so
they have a better chance of a successful release.
It's been wonderful to see the interest shown by the local
children, hopefully my work is helping them to respect wildlife,
no matter what variety.
We can't
always save
every one,
but it is very
rewarding to
see them go
back to the
wild and find
a mate and
get on with
their lives.
Thank you
once again,
Jo
Approved Occupants
There appears to be some confusion circulating throughout the community in relation to the approval requirements
which a tenant must seek for authorising visitors, family or friends who wish to stay in Newlands subsidised family
accommodation.
There is nothing in your Tenancy Agreement that restricts you from having family and friends visiting or holidaying
with you on a short term basis, subject to compliance with your General Tenancy Agreement. However, should
you wish to have family or friends reside with you at the property, for a period of time which exceeds three (3)
months duration, you must seek written authorisation from the Town Services Office.
A tenant is not permitted to take on boarders or to allow any person or persons to reside in Newlands subsidised
accommodation on a permanent basis, unless otherwise approved in writing by the Town Services Office.
Caravans and Campervans are permitted to stay at the property for periods not exceeding one (1) month duration,
for the purpose of visitor (not worker) habitation only.
Unlocking of Accommodation (including after hours)
Should you inadvertently lock your keys inside your house, flat or SPQ please call Morris Corporation
(at the cafeteria) on 4958 9229 and the duty manager will arrange to unlock. The unlocking of
accommodation should not be referred to our maintenance contractor, RD Services.

Newlands Surface Operations
Emergency Response 2012
Brisbane for all commercial and military airports within Australia.
Mackay Airport still has three Tridents on the front line. Instructors
from Mackay Airport Fire Service and the RAAF have conducted
training to Newlands Surface Operations personnel in Operational and
Birthdays at one local business just got a whole lot better with the announcement staff will be entitled to extra paid
leave for their special day. Queensland Country took the extraordinary step of gifting their staff with an extra day of paid
leave as part of a broader initiative to reward and recognise staff.
Queensland Country CEO Aileen Cull said while recent staff survey results were considered some of the best for a
workplace there was always room to do more. “We wanted to introduce something that all staff could celebrate at an
individual level, and Birthdays are the perfect occasion to do that,” she explained.
Further to the Birthday leave, staff are now also encouraged to participate in a reward and recognition program called
‘Share The Love’. “While our culture is underpinned by treating staff with equality, it’s also important that we celebrate
exceptional performance. ‘Share the Love’ encourages staff to recognise their colleagues for outstanding effort,” she
explained.
The paid Birthday leave is on top of an already generous five weeks annual leave and is available to all staff who have
successfully completed their three to six month probation period. Queensland Country is also recognised as an employer
of choice for women, one of only 19 businesses in Queensland with this honour.
Giant Pumpkins - Time to Sow
Now is the time for all those entrants in this year’s Clermont Show -
the Isaac Region’s Show - to get their pumpkin seeds planted and
start planning how to grow their record breaking pumpkins.
Show Committee Chairman, David Keene, advises that more than 40
nomination packs, which include giant pumpkin seeds and growing
instructions, have already been sold throughout the region.
“This is one area of the show where anyone from anywhere in the
Isaac Region can become involved in their local show. Schools,
commercial businesses, home gardeners, or professional farmers all
have what it takes to compete - a small area of land, access to
modern technology and a desire to present the Isaac region to the
rest of Australia as a great place to grow. What better way than to
produce a record breaking pumpkin with your name on it!”
Competition organiser, John Burnett
advises that there are still plenty of seed
packs available for anyone who missed
out at last year’s show. Fiona James, at
Elders Clermont will be able to supply
your needs, but it is important to get
active now, as it takes approximately
100 days to produce a giant pumpkin.
The Queensland record stands at over
300 kg, but with good planning and the
right weather, anything is possible.
Good luck to all growers!
The Boy From Oz tells the dazzling and heart- breaking story of the
great Australian entertainer and larger than life showman, Peter Allen.
From humble beginnings growing up in 1950’s Australian bush town,
Armidale, to his meteoric rise to fame as an international star. Peter
Allen’s chance encounter with Judy Garland in the 1960’s changed
the course of his life forever.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (the musical) is based on the 1988 film of the
same name, which starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine. Set in
modern times, this is a riotous comedy about two con artists who ply
their trade on the French Riviera. Their escapades make for a great
night of entertainment.
Prices: $29.90 Admission
Come along with Elmo and the Sesame Street gang as they circle the
globe in this all-singing, all-dancing stage show touring Australia in
2012. Abby Cadabby, Big Bird, Grover, Zoe, Cookie Monster and
Elmo use the letters of the alphabet to navigate a voyage through
imagination that sees the gang visiting China, Zambia, France, India
and Australia! Elmo and his friends have fun learning how people
sing and dance and say hello in different places, but things don’t go to
plan when Cookie Monster eats a letter of the alphabet.
Can Abby Cadabby find the right spell to help? Along the way,
audiences will also delight in hearing a sensational tale from The
Count and will help some back-packing rubber-duckies find a place to
stay with Bert and Ernie.
