Job Profile Project
Grade 9 Mrs. Orbanski’s Career Development Class
Submitted by Caitlin Schott
What do you want to be when you grow up? This is the question that
the grade nine career development class investigated. Some careers the
students chose to do their projects on were farming, pharmacy, medical
doctor, mechanics, landscaping, helicopter pilot, fashion designer,
radio host, Conservation Officer and RCMP Officer.
The grade nines researched and compiled booklets about their jobs
beginning with an introduction page that reflects the student’s interest
in the job, such as why they want to thrive in this career. Next, the job
profile page and the training requirements page just is another part of
the research; the schools that offer it, which school has the best
programs, as well as the cost and length of training. The grade nines
also had a chance to put together 10 interview questions which they
asked professionals to answer. This turned out to be one the best parts
of the project. Some notable interviews came from Chrissy Troy, Dr.
Donnely, Local pharmacist Brian, Perry Hibbert, Helicopter Pilot
Derek Longley, Conservation Officer Ben Baranowski, and as well as
local farmers.
Students created posters and project boards, gather artifacts and
photographs and got together to display and share their work on the
morning of April 29 th . We began the morning with guest speaker
Constable John Klassen. He spoke to the class about the duties of an
RCMP Officer. He shared on the job stories and even demoed his taser.
