The many sceptics
who forecast that the
London Olympics
2012 would be a
disaster on so many
counts were silenced
and even seen to be
begrudgingly nodding in agreement that YES
the 2012 Games had been an overwhelming
success.
The much publicised concerns over
administration ticket allocation and sales,
security and the efficiency of the transport
systems were all laid to rest as both the
Olympics and the Paralympics ran without a
hitch. The participating athletes were united
in their praise of the accommodation, training
facilities and the venues . The atmosphere
especially in the Velodrome, Aquadrome and

Success in the face of adversity
the Track and Field Stadium was electric,
pushing so many participating Olympians to
achieve PB's in addition to winning medals.
The Opening & Closing Ceremonies for both
the Olympics and Paralympics captured the
imagination of the nation and far beyond,
with spectacles that portrayed the essence
of Great Britain through the Ages, and the
indomitable spirit of the paralympions.
Many of the organisers were past Olympians.
They were led by Lord Seb Coe, who long
had the vision of bringing the Olympics &
Paralympic Games to London. The city
became the centrepiece for so many of the
events with Buckingham Palace, Greenwich
Park, Guards Parade and Lord's Cricket
Ground either hosting or providing a
backdrop for events. The spirit of the Games
spilt out into the streets generating a vibrant

'feel good', atmosphere throughout. Not to
be forgotten are the thousands of volunteers
who's enthusiasm and dedication played a
very significant part in the success of London
2012.
There seems little doubt that London 2012
has more than thrown down the challenge to
the Brazilian organisers of 2016 who will
surely be uplifted as well as daunted by the
overall success and praise that has been
lavished on these Games.
Sadly, there were some adverse comments
from France which generated some dialogue
on the social networking sites generally
referring to 'Sour Grapes' but the best British
Twitter must surely be the response
'Sorry. Can't Hear You. Too Busy Winning
Everything.'
