Amundi: new <strong>ETF</strong> provider<br />

Amundi Investment Solutions is the latest issuer<br />

to join the <strong>Swiss</strong> marketplace for <strong>ETF</strong>s. This<br />

French financial institution listed 14 new <strong>ETF</strong>s on<br />

the <strong>Exchange</strong>. We would like to extend a warm<br />

welcome to Amundi Investment Solutions and<br />

look very much forward not only to a gratifying<br />

collaboration with the company but also to the<br />

enhancement its product palette will bring to the<br />

<strong>ETF</strong> segment.<br />

Updated and revamped: The second edition of<br />

the <strong>ETF</strong> Guide has been compiled jointly by <strong>SIX</strong><br />

<strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> and Finanz und Wirtschaft. This<br />

popular reference work provides private as well<br />

as institutional investors with everything they<br />

need to know about exchange traded funds.<br />

ETPDs 2010<br />

Organized under the auspices of <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong><br />

<strong>Exchange</strong> and Scoach Switzerland, the <strong>Exchange</strong><br />

Traded Product Day held this past March in the<br />

facilities of ConventionPoint was a great success.<br />

More than 400 individuals joined to exchange<br />

ideas and learn about the latest trends and developments<br />

in the field of modern financial products.<br />

Two new market makers<br />

In April, another two financial institutions took up<br />

market making activities in the <strong>ETF</strong> segment.<br />

Crédit Agricole Chevreux will provide liquidity for<br />

eight <strong>ETF</strong>s and Flow Traders for four products.<br />

Driving the <strong>Swiss</strong> market with<br />

lower fees and innovations!<br />

<strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong>: Ms. Baudson, can you briefly introduce<br />

Amundi <strong>ETF</strong>?<br />

Valérie Baudson: Amundi <strong>ETF</strong> is a business line of Amundi, the joint<br />

asset management company of Crédit Agricole and Société Générale.<br />

We decided to launch our <strong>ETF</strong> business two years ago in very tense<br />

market conditions. In 2009, our strategy was focused on developing<br />

a large range of products based on a competitive pricing structure<br />

(low management fees and tight spreads). After one year of development<br />

and with a presence only in France, we more than doubled<br />

our assets under management and registered one of the fastest<br />

growth rates in Europe in terms of market share.<br />

No doubt that 2010 is the year for the European development for<br />

Amundi <strong>ETF</strong>, as we started cross-registering and multi-listing our<br />

products on various stock exchanges across Europe. Our arrival in<br />

Switzerland marks another significant step in Amundi <strong>ETF</strong>’s development<br />

strategy and will help us achieve our ambitious target for<br />

becoming one of the five biggest players in Europe with more than<br />

EUR 10 billion in assets under management by 2012.<br />

You recently launched 14 <strong>ETF</strong>s on the <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong><br />

among your range of 79 products, why did you start with this<br />

offer?<br />

Our entry into the <strong>Swiss</strong> market, known as one of the most competitive<br />

in Europe, represents a key stage in our development strategy.<br />

With our broad product mix, the products listed in each stock<br />

exchange across Europe may differ from a country to another<br />

depending on local investors’ demand and on market potential.<br />

The 14 <strong>ETF</strong>s listed on <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> benefit form competitive<br />

management fees (20% lower on average as compared to competition)<br />

and 7 of them are unprecedented.<br />

For example, the AMUNDI <strong>ETF</strong> MSCI EUROPE EX SWITZERLAND<br />

is an excellent vehicle for <strong>Swiss</strong> investors seeking to be exposed to<br />

the MSCI Europe excluding their domestic market. It is clearly a<br />

product adapted to <strong>Swiss</strong> investors.<br />

On the fixed-income side, we wanted to provide <strong>Swiss</strong> investors<br />

with an easy access to the Eurozone government debt (all maturities)<br />

and Euro corporates.<br />

Furthermore, since commodity investment is crucial<br />

in Switzerland, we listed four unique commodity<br />

<strong>ETF</strong>s, which are UCITS III funds and traded in USD,<br />

based on the S&P Goldman Sachs Commodity index<br />

family. These vehicles enable investors to be exposed<br />

to the main commodity markets via a basket of commodities<br />

such as agriculture (cotton, coffee, cocoa,<br />

corn, soy beans, wheat and sugar), industrial and precious<br />

metals, energy or non-energy.<br />

These first listings will be followed by several others in<br />

the coming weeks in order to offer <strong>Swiss</strong> investors up<br />

to 40 Amundi <strong>ETF</strong> funds by the end of the year.<br />

What added value do you bring to the <strong>Swiss</strong><br />

investors?<br />

Amundi <strong>ETF</strong> range’s core benefits can be summed up<br />

in three core principles: cost-efficiency, product quality<br />

and innovation. And we believe that these competitive<br />

edges will meet <strong>Swiss</strong> investors’ needs.<br />

Let’s begin with cost-competitiveness. Price is clearly<br />

a key issue in our marketing strategy as we believe<br />

that it is one of the client’s major concerns. On a global<br />

basis, the Total Expense Ratio (TER) of our <strong>ETF</strong>s<br />

are 20% lower than the average of our competitors on<br />

equivalent exposures. In addition to the management<br />

fees, we work carefully on the spreads with our market<br />

makers to keep them as tight as possible and<br />

therefore offer the best cost structure possible.<br />

Regarding the quality, indeed, the way we build and<br />

manage our <strong>ETF</strong>s is an important factor. The use of a<br />

swap-based replication method enables us to minimize<br />

the Tracking Error as we do not bear the cost of<br />

buying all the components of the index. Moreover,<br />

our products benefit from the high quality ratings of<br />

the Crédit Agricole (Equity & Commodity <strong>ETF</strong>s) and<br />

Société Générale (Fixed Income <strong>ETF</strong>s) Groups.<br />

Last but not least, innovation has been one of our<br />

main drivers when setting up the product range.<br />

Among the 79 product composing the Amundi <strong>ETF</strong><br />

range, 27 are unprecedented at their launch date.<br />

What is your outlook regarding the future of the<br />

<strong>ETF</strong> market?<br />

The exchange-traded fund market has shown a significant<br />

increase in terms of assets under management<br />

in recent years, even during the particularly<br />

tough market environment in 2008, when the global<br />

mutual fund industry suffered substantial redemptions.<br />

At Amundi <strong>ETF</strong>, we believe that this impressive<br />

growth is likely to last as many investors find that<br />

<strong>ETF</strong>s meet their requirements in terms of transparency,<br />

cost-efficiency and liquidity. The European <strong>ETF</strong><br />

markets, and especially the <strong>Swiss</strong> market, are not yet<br />

mature; there is still a strong potential for growth, and<br />

for sure, we will be part of it.<br />

Welcome Amundi<br />

We are pleased to welcome yet another <strong>ETF</strong> provider to <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> –<br />

Amundi Investment Solutions. The firm is a wholly owned subsidiary of the<br />

Amundi Group and specializes, among other things, in the issuance of exchange<br />

traded funds. The Amundi Group came into existence through the merger of the<br />

asset management units of two major French financial institutions: Crédit Agricole<br />

and Société Générale.<br />

Effective as of 13. 4. 2010, ten Amundi <strong>ETF</strong>s became listed on <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong>,<br />

eight of which are based on equities and two on bonds.<br />

Facts and Figures<br />

Total Q1 2010 turnover in the <strong>ETF</strong> segment of <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> amounted to<br />

CHF 16.72 billion, a 69.9% increase over Q1 2009.<br />

At the end of March 2010, 321 <strong>ETF</strong>s from eleven product providers were listed<br />

on <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong>. This represents an increase of 46 products. At present,<br />

16 market makers provide liquidity for these instruments.<br />

Events<br />

<strong>Exchange</strong> Traded Product Days in Geneva and Zurich<br />

Following the tremendous success of the <strong>Exchange</strong> Traded Product<br />

Days in the last few years, <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> and Scoach organized<br />

two further events of this kind in Geneva and Zurich this past<br />

March. Once again, these ETPDs aroused great interest among<br />

investors, as can be seen in the number of visitors: more than 400<br />

investors attended the gatherings in Zurich and Geneva.<br />

At the events, selected representatives of the financial industry gave<br />

lectures on the latest market know-how in the field of exchange<br />

traded funds and structured products. The goal was to provide professional<br />

investors with a forum for addressing and learning about<br />

current product innovations and investment themes.<br />

Greatly appreciated were the Economic Roundtables manned by<br />

recognized experts. These panel discussions offered participants an<br />

outstanding platform for posing questions directly to the specialists.<br />

Given the success of the <strong>Exchange</strong> Traded Product Days this spring,<br />

<strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> and Scoach will stage another round of events<br />

FONDS’10<br />

On 2–5 February 2010, the twelfth annual investment fund fair FONDS’10 was held at Zurich’s Kongresshaus.<br />

Close to 8,400 people attended the four highly successful days of the fair. On 3 February, 2,100 institutional<br />

investors and wealthy individuals were present for the «Professional Visitors Day», which was held for the second<br />

year in succession. The program module «FinanzFITamine – Investment Know-how Lite», which was presented<br />

by the fair organizers in three rounds on the final day of FONDS’10, got off to a great start. Roberto<br />

Lopez, Head of Member Education, played an active role in this module by giving a technical lecture.<br />

<strong>ETF</strong> Product Management at <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> was also present again with a booth, which attracted a large<br />

number of visitors.<br />

XENIX® INVESTOR CONFERENCE 2010<br />

On 16 and 17 February 2010, the XENIX Investor Conference<br />

2010 was held in Berlin. With an audience of<br />

professional investors in attendance, the entire value<br />

chain of institutional capital investment was addressed<br />

from various viewpoints.<br />

Alain Picard, Head of Product Sales <strong>ETF</strong>s, gave a lecture<br />

at XENIX.<br />

INSIDE <strong>ETF</strong>s – EUROPE CONFERENCE<br />

Inside <strong>ETF</strong>s took place in April 2010 in Amsterdam.<br />

The event was intended for an audience of institutional<br />

investors and financial advisors. Addressed at the<br />

conference were pertinent topics such as the use of<br />

<strong>ETF</strong>s and approaches to portfolio construction, as<br />

well as the key aspects of trading, liquidity provision<br />

and fund structure.<br />

Appendix<br />

What are <strong>Exchange</strong> Traded Funds?<br />

<strong>Exchange</strong> Traded Funds (abbreviation: <strong>ETF</strong>s) are investment funds<br />

that are listed on a securities exchange and traded permanently. The<br />

majority of <strong>ETF</strong>s launched to date are index funds – or, as it were,<br />

passively managed funds – whose objective is to mirror the price<br />

and yield developments of a given underlying index. <strong>ETF</strong>s combine<br />

the advantages of con-ventional index-related funds with those of<br />

exchangelisted shares. Investors acquire in a single transaction a<br />

holding that represents all the constituent issues of a specific index,<br />

and thus can easily and conveniently diversify their portfolios. The<br />

composition of the fund is continuously adjusted to reflect the<br />

weightings within the index and is therefore known to all and eminently<br />

transparent. On one hand, the advantage to investors is represented<br />

by their ability to acquire a diversified, regulated and costefficient<br />

in-vestment instrument. On the other, <strong>ETF</strong>s offer a similarly<br />

high degree of liquidity as that of shares because they are traded<br />

permanently on <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong>.<br />
