(73B) writes that after 22 years of
marriage, many years of foster
parenting and volunteer work
through her church, two adoptions
and four natural children and 10
years of homeschooling, she has now
gone ‘back to college’ to become a
certified elementary school teacher.
She plans to teach in the St. Louis
City schools and hopes to eventually

Michael Bandas (76A), his
wife, Lynn, and their children Brian

Michael Wheeler (78D)
resides in New Mexico and was
recently promoted to district manager
with the New Mexico Educators
Federal Credit Union. He also
teaches at a local community college
and serves in the community for
Focus Foundation, a non-profit
organization for counseling high
school students to complete high
school.
Kevin Cordes (79D) and his
wife, Ellen, had a baby girl, Nicole
Anne, on October 10, 2002. Sister
Gillian (2) just loves her new sister.
The family moved to 1 Liberty Lane,
Miller Place, NY 11764. Kevin and
Ellen both work as engineers at
Symbol Technologies on Long
Island, New York, and Kevin is
finishing up his second master’s
degree in engineering.

Charles Vilina (81B) and
Kathleen Kampa (79B) are
living in Tokyo, Japan, with their
sons John and Christian. They’ve
recently published a two-level starter

English language course for children
called “Magic Time.” Charles is
teaching English classes and writing.

Carine Leroi (82B) and
Dirk Schils announce the birth of
their second son, Denis, born May 7,
2002. Older brother Vincent (now 3
years old) is very happy with his baby
brother.

just earned his Ph.D. from the
University of Minnesota and has
started a new career as a college
professor. His new home is at 3685

marrow transplant for stage four
lymphoma is working well and
health is steady right now. Most of
all, the spirit of UWP is alive, and
love to all UWP alumni and your

Marta Vargas (82B), from
Bogotá, Colombia, is working in
tourism in Bogotá. She would like to
work for a hotel on an island or by
the sea where she can speak English.

Darrell Pechtl (83A)
started working as an assistant
principal at Holtville High School in
Holtville, California, this year. He
found out on New Year’s Eve that he
and his wife Norma are expecting
their first child in August.

(Keyser) Johnson (74A) are
living in Boulder, Colorado with

Myriam left her position as a school
administrator 1.5 years ago and is
now a realtor. Scott is starting on his
fourth music CD which deals with
personal and global transformation

Annette Salvesen
(Öström) (83D) and husband
Thomas have two children, Marius
(born in 1991) and Andreas (born in
1994). She owns a shop in Ski,
Norway, with Swedish paper and
paper-related articles called Ordning
& Reda (www.ordning-reda.com),
which roughly means “putting things
in order.” She hopes to be at the
reunion this summer, and if anyone

Mary Swetka (83D), after
three years in Arkansas, was transferred
north near Saint Louis,
Missouri. She and her husband are
settling in and enjoying the snow
with their two dogs Blue and Elvis.
Her next step is to find a job in retail
management and asks if any local
alums have any leads. They are also
tossing around the idea of foster care
leading to adoption. She can be

recently named senior vice president
and director of Wholesale Banking
Product Management at National
City Corporation Headquartered in
Cleveland, Ohio. National City is
one of the largest financial holding
companies in the U.S.

May 25, 2003, in West Des Moines,
Iowa. Janelle and Max both work for
