(Pettersen) Boozer (92A) were
thrilled to welcome Alexander Reijo
Boozer to the family on May 21,
2002. Alex and his “big brother”
Rockie, the Boozers’ Labrador
retriever, are quickly becoming the
best of friends.
One month later, Tripp Stephen
Ceyssens joined our Denver clan on
June 21, 2002. A perfect replica of
his father – Guido Ceyssens (91A),
Tripp is quite the charmer. His mom,
Colleen (Pero) Ceyssens (90B) sure
does stay on her toes keeping up
with her boys! Proud aunts of little
Tripp are Goele Ceyssens (94A) and
Eef Das (89B).
It became “three in a row” —
boys, that is — when Justin Wilson
MacLennan came into the world on
July 12, 2002. His parents are Kent
MacLennan (95A) and Jennifer
Parkhill (93E). Jen says, “What fun!
He is a total joy!”
Anna Elizabeth Oleson joined in
on the fun on November 14, 2002.
The daughter of Soren Olesen (86E)
and Vikki (Neibauer) Olesen (91E),
Anna was named after Vikki’s
favorite store. Says Vikki, “The store
was located in Denmark and was
called ‘Beautiful Anna.’ I spied it
Boston –
We Are One”
* Reunion 2003 *
July 24 – 27
Sheraton Boston
when Soren and I were dating and
fell in love with the name ‘Anna’ —
and the store!”
We said farewell to 2002, but not
without the birth of one more
Denver UWP baby — Jessica
Suzanne Burns, daughter of Wendy
(Cross) Burns (UWP Marketing
Department) and her husband Andy.
Jessica was born on December 8,
2002 — almost two years exactly
from the date when UWP announced
the ceasing of operations.
A new year brought the announcement
of more UWP babies
on the way — it seems the trend is
here to stay. Annelis Jennea Hansen,
the one-year-old daughter of Jeff
Hansen (86C) and Jennifer (Galis)
Hansen (88C), will be the first to
welcome a new sibling in April 2003.
Our Denver UWP family has
definitely grown — and each addition
brings joy to not only the
parents, but the “honorary aunts and
uncles” as well.
Keep your eyes on UpBeat and
on the alumni web site for more
additions to our group. As for me?
I’ve stopped drinking the water in
Denver, just to be safe. I’m usually
not superstitious, but you just never
know.
WorldSmart Leadership Program:
Opportunities to Help
According to Jeff Hoag, CEO of UWP, the biggest opportunities to
help right now are assisting UWP secure relationships with universities
and making a financial contribution. If you have a contact with a
university that may be interested in the WorldSmart Leadership
Program, please contact Hiro Nishimura, COO of UWP, at
hnishimura@upwithpeople.org. He can send you a packet of information
to forward to the university.
Also, alumni are strongly requested to educate themselves about
WorldSmart by visiting www.upwithpeople.org, then identify potential
students who match the criteria. Consider siblings, sons, daughters,
fellow students, even the kids you used to baby-sit. Within the section
of the web site titled “Student” there is a summary of the program and
criteria for enrollment. Qualified students shoud be referred to the web
site to register and note their interest in enrolling.
Other opportunities to help exist as well. Monetary donations will
accelerate the progress and are always welcome, and now you can
contribute online at the www.upwithpeople.org. According to Jeff,
UWP has an endowment of more than $7 million (U.S.), but use of
those dollars is currently restricted — primarily being designated as
scholarships funds for students once the program is again operational.
He estimates that up to $3 million (U.S.) in start-up resources will be
needed to launch the new program.
The new UWP also needs assistance with developing questions
and answers about the program in local languages and interviewing
applicants locally.
Hiro urges all alumni to sign up for the e-mail list on the web
site. Anyone interested in volunteering to make WorldSmart
successful from its first semester should contact Hiro at
hnishimura@upwithpeople.org.
