Course Description:<br />

This course is an architectural design studio where<strong>in</strong> each<br />

student develops a comprehensive architectural design project.<br />

This <strong>in</strong>cludes development of program spaces and relationships,<br />

development of structural and environmental systems, build<strong>in</strong>g<br />

envelope systems, life-safety issues, technical construction<br />

sections and assemblies, along with experiential render<strong>in</strong>gs and a<br />

focus on tell<strong>in</strong>g a critical project story.<br />

Each student will develop an <strong>in</strong>dependent, critical position on<br />

the mak<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>architecture</strong> <strong>in</strong> the world. Based on the product of<br />

the preced<strong>in</strong>g Design Th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g Degree Project Preparation – an<br />

<strong>in</strong>dividually <strong>in</strong>itiated programmatic, <strong>in</strong>tentional, and situational<br />

framework – the student develops an aspir<strong>in</strong>g and compell<strong>in</strong>g<br />

conceptual framework, progresses to a conv<strong>in</strong>c<strong>in</strong>g development<br />

of all aspects of the project – formal, spatial, experiential,<br />

organizational, structural, and technical – and creates a clear,<br />

full, and persuasive presentation of their work.<br />

Project Description:<br />

As determ<strong>in</strong>ed, described and approved <strong>in</strong> Design Th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Course Goals:<br />

Based on an <strong>in</strong>dividually <strong>in</strong>itiated programmatic, <strong>in</strong>tentional,<br />

and situational framework the student is to develop a project<br />

based on the parameters established <strong>in</strong> the Design Th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g<br />

course proposal. Each student is devoted to the development<br />

of all aspects of the project – formal, spatial, experiential,<br />

organizational, environmental,, structural, and technical, aim<strong>in</strong>g<br />

at creat<strong>in</strong>g a clear, full, and persuasive presentation for the work.<br />

A student’s ability to work <strong>in</strong>dependently is encouraged and<br />

tested.
