12. The number of physically challenged<br />

candidates recommended for appointment on<br />

the basis of Civil Services (Main) Examination,<br />

2006 was 18.<br />

Interviews<br />

13. For the Civil Services Examination 2006,<br />

seven Personality Test Boards were constituted.<br />

Candidates were allowed to opt for either English<br />

or any one of the Indian Languages as medium<br />

for the Personality Test. Out of 14<strong>08</strong> candidates<br />

(candidates actually qualified for interview were<br />

1409, but one candidate did not appear for the<br />

Personality Test) who appeared at the Personality<br />

Test, 958 candidates opted for English whereas<br />

450 candidates opted for an Indian Language as<br />

14. The number of candidates who opted for<br />

the literature of an Indian Language as one of<br />

the optional subjects for the 2006 Examination<br />

was 1318. Language–wise break up is given in<br />

Appendix XI. In addition, details of the number<br />

of candidates who chose an Indian Language as a<br />

medium for answering other optional subjects are<br />

given in Appendix XII.<br />

Qualifications of candidates<br />

15. Out of the 474 candidates recommended<br />

for appointment, there were 193 Postgraduates<br />

and 281 Graduates. The break-up of the academic<br />

qualifications of successful candidates, subjects<br />

taken by them and their age-wise analysis etc.<br />

are given at Appendix- XIII and University-wise<br />

break up of candidates applied and selected is<br />

given at Appendix- XIV.<br />

16. It may also be mentioned that as per<br />

provisions of Rule 16 (4) & (5) of the Civil Services<br />

Examination Rules 2006, the Commission<br />

maintained a consolidated Reserve List of 116<br />

candidates. On receipt of a request, from the<br />

Department of Personnel & Training the result<br />

(2nd Merit Order List) of 58 candidates would be<br />

declared by the Commission.<br />

HIGHLIGHTS OF ENGINEERING SER-<br />

VICES EXAMINATION – 2006<br />

17. The Engineering Services Examination,<br />

2006 was notified in January 14, 2006. In response<br />

to the Notification, a total number of 65,219<br />

candidates applied for the Examination. The<br />

written examination was held on June 10, 2006<br />

and a total number of 16,824 candidates appeared<br />

in the examination. The result for the written<br />
