GCC Alum Receives International Award
GCC Alumnus David Lindquist, class of 1977, and his employer,
University of Minnesota, received the 2010 Synergy Award for
Program of the Year from The International Collegiate Licensing
Association (ICLA). This honor is awarded annually to an exceptional
“team”on campus or from a conference. The nominees must demonstrate
an extraordinary commitment to collegiate licensing.
Dave is employed as the trademark licensing director at the
University of Minnesota (UM). Prior to working for UM, he gained
invaluable experience as a buyer for one of Minnesota’s top retailer,
athletics department concessionaire and team store operative. His
extensive experience and knowledge propelled him to the director
position, and the UM brand has flourished as a result ever since.
With the opening of Minnesota’s new on-campus football
home, TCF Bank Stadium, came an abundance of opportunities for
Lindquist and the Golden Gopher staff to increase royalties for the
program. The university saw a 16 percent increase in that department,
and a pair of initiatives spearheaded by Lindquist was crucial
in making it happen. According to Dave, “I strongly believe that my
GCC education prepared me for success in my profession and GCC
played a major role in my ability to succeed.”
Dave resides in Monticello, Minnesota with his wife of
twenty-five years, Julie. Their daughter Melissa is a senior at
Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and their daughter Kristina is
a senior at Monticello High School.
Foundation
Event
The 1st GCC Foundation Scholarship Scramble
was held in September, 2010, at the Lac Vieux
Desert Resort and Casino in Watersmeet,
Michigan. The four-person scramble included 18
holes of golf, carts, lunch, dinner, door prizes and
cash payouts. Money raised at this event will be
for a new scholarship. Attendees had a wonderful
and very wet time (it rained most of the day!). We
plan to make this an annual event and will keep
you posted on the date for 2011.
