Gateway sites: North Marine Lake; Pier forecourt (Funland), Floral Hal<br />

Gardens, Marine Drive/Marine Parade junction. ‘Dunes’ site, Victoria Park<br />

Major Landmarks:<br />

• Weld Road roundabout,<br />

• the intersections of Coronation Walk, Scarisbrick Ave, Leicester Street<br />

and Fairway with the Promenade.<br />

• On the old Promenade opposite the ends of all the streets between<br />

Seabank Street & Leyland Road, to mirror the effect of the landmarks on<br />

the new Floodwall<br />

• On the island(s) in the northern part of the Lake, and/or in the Lake itself<br />

• Prince’s Park at the termination of the footbridge axis<br />

• Park and Ride Sites (visitor reception buildings)<br />

Minor Landmarks can be provided at a variety of locations as required to<br />

mark the intersection of routes, provide direction, shelter or information.<br />

6. Sites for Development<br />

6.1) Introduction<br />

New development in the <strong>Seafront</strong> must extend the daily and seasonal use of<br />

the <strong>Seafront</strong> and increase the diversity of attractions, while reinforcing the<br />

‘pleasuregarden’ character of the <strong>Seafront</strong>. The only existing development<br />

sites in the <strong>Seafront</strong> are the site next to Dunes Leisure Centre between the<br />

Esplanade and Victoria Way, the site adjacent to Ocean Plaza on Marine<br />

Parade (the ‘Aquadome’ site), and the site at the north end of Marine Lake.
