DISCUSSION: Newspapers and their Publications on<br />

S/SH/SR <strong>Issues</strong><br />

The Sun<br />

The present research shows that The Sun is the lead<strong>in</strong>g newspaper <strong>in</strong> the<br />

publication of issues concern<strong>in</strong>g S/SH/SR hav<strong>in</strong>g published one hundred and<br />

twelve (112) articles <strong>in</strong> about 62% of its issues. The popularity of this<br />

newspaper seems to depend on the <strong>in</strong>formation on S/SH/SR and other<br />

sensational <strong>in</strong>formation which it carries. The Sun's reports focused on aspects of<br />

<strong>Sexuality</strong> 75% and Sexual Health 25% and noth<strong>in</strong>g was published on sexual<br />

rights. Many of the articles were reports of real life happen<strong>in</strong>gs and The Sun<br />

does not shy away from report<strong>in</strong>g on issues of S/SH/SR and <strong>in</strong> detail.<br />

On S/SH/SR it concentrates its publications on sexual violence 13%, love and<br />

romance 14%, sexual problems 10%, relationship disappo<strong>in</strong>tments 8%,<br />

reproductive health 8% and HIV/AIDS. The newspaper also reports more on<br />

sexual scandals than any other daily newspaper giv<strong>in</strong>g it 5% of its coverage on<br />

S/SH/SR. The reports on real life issues and experiences are also enlighten<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and educative to the read<strong>in</strong>g public.<br />

<strong>Issues</strong> of S/SH/SR appeared <strong>in</strong> all parts of the paper. Four times dur<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

period, sexual scandal occupied the headl<strong>in</strong>e. Nevertheless, issues of S/SH/SR<br />

were mostly published <strong>in</strong> certa<strong>in</strong> columns. These <strong>in</strong>cluded:<br />

It was not possible to know who commissioned the articles and news items.<br />

Nevertheless, it is the policy of The Sun to publish different happen<strong>in</strong>gs even<br />

those considered mundane by some other papers. These catchy mundane<br />

happen<strong>in</strong>gs are th<strong>in</strong>gs people want to know about and attract people to read the<br />

paper. The Sun's publications are lighthearted easy to ready and accompanied<br />

with captivat<strong>in</strong>g photographs. The paper is not conservative although value
