Suzanne Leclerc-Madlala, M.A.(George Wash<strong>in</strong>gton University),<br />
PhD.(University of Natal) is Head of the Anthropology Programme at the newly<br />
amalgamated University of KwaZulu-Natal. Her <strong>in</strong>terests are <strong>in</strong> the fields of<br />
human evolution, gender and sexuality, and sociocultuiral aspects of health and<br />
illness. Hav<strong>in</strong>g conducted research on <strong>in</strong>digenous therapeutics <strong>in</strong> Gabon, her<br />
research of the past decade has focused on peoples' experiences with and<br />
responses to HIV/AIDS <strong>in</strong> South <strong>Africa</strong>. She is a widely published and<br />
<strong>in</strong>ternationally recognised researcher on issues of gender and sexuality related<br />
to the AIDS epidemic. She is currently active <strong>in</strong> health <strong>in</strong>itiatives with<br />
traditional healers and local virg<strong>in</strong>ity testers.<br />
Sarah Lucy Kearney, B.A. Honours, M.A. (University of Natal) is a<br />
freelance researcher and writer with professional <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> gender, human<br />
rights, political mediation and youth development. She has worked as a senior<br />
researcher for the South <strong>Africa</strong>n Human Rights Commission, the Democratic<br />
Development Programme, and The Centre for Civil Society. She has conducted<br />
workshops for the South <strong>Africa</strong>n Department of Health on HIV/AIDS and<br />
mental health and is currently <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> a number of refugee related projects.<br />
Roseanne Njiru holds a B.A <strong>in</strong> Sociology and L<strong>in</strong>guistics and a Masters <strong>in</strong><br />
Sociology (Medical) from the University of Nairobi and has experience <strong>in</strong> both<br />
qualitative and quantitative research. She has worked both as an assistant<br />
researcher and researcher with UNESCO, the University of Nairobi and also<br />
conducted <strong>in</strong>dependent research made possible through research grants. Areas<br />
she has <strong>in</strong>vestigated <strong>in</strong>clude, among others, the sexual and reproductive health<br />
of street girls <strong>in</strong> Nairobi; child sexual abuse <strong>in</strong> Kenya; gender and HIV/AIDS.<br />
Roseanne is also a past recipient of the <strong>Africa</strong>n <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Sexuality</strong> Resource<br />
Centre's <strong>Sexuality</strong> Leadership Development Fellowship. She is currently a<br />
graduate assistant with the University of Nairobi/Kalamazoo College<br />
Programme <strong>in</strong> Kenya.<br />
Charity K<strong>in</strong>ya Koronya. Kenyan, has a Masters of Arts <strong>in</strong> Community<br />
Development and Rural Sociology from the University of Nairobi and a<br />
postgraduate diploma <strong>in</strong> Population Studies and Demography from the<br />

University of Botswana. Charity has worked as a program officer with the<br />
Family Plann<strong>in</strong>g Association of Kenya and is currently senior program officer<br />
Planned Parenthood Association of America-International, Kenya. She is a<br />
gender expert and has extensive consultancy experience <strong>in</strong> FGM, Advocacy for<br />
women's rights, Adolescent Reproductive Health and Sexual Rights<br />
programm<strong>in</strong>g. She has also conducted extensive research <strong>in</strong> the areas of FGM<br />
and early marriage<br />
Gamal Ibrahim Abou El Serour is professor and consultant <strong>in</strong> obstetrics<br />
and gynecology and a specialist <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>fertility treatment, Al-Azhar University<br />
s<strong>in</strong>ce 1982. He is also director of the International Islamic Centre for Population<br />
Studies and Research, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt. A member of the<br />
editorial board of the Journal of Medical Ethics, London, Serour has written over<br />
200 publications <strong>in</strong> both national and <strong>in</strong>ternational journals <strong>in</strong> the areas of<br />
reproductive health, endoscopy, microsurgery, family plann<strong>in</strong>g, medically<br />
assisted conception and medical ethics.<br />
Ahmed R.A Ragab is a reproductive health consultant and assistant<br />
professor <strong>in</strong> applied reproductive health research at the International Islamic<br />
Centre for Population Studies and Research, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt.<br />
He has a wealth of experience hav<strong>in</strong>g worked <strong>in</strong> several <strong>Africa</strong>n countries<br />
<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Somalia and Sudan <strong>in</strong> the areas of HIV/AIDS/STIs and issues of<br />
violence aga<strong>in</strong>st women.<br />
Eno Blankson Ikpe is a socio-economic historian and a Senior Lecturer <strong>in</strong><br />
the Department of History and Strategic Studies, University of Lagos, Nigeria.<br />
In recent years, she has concentrated her research efforts <strong>in</strong> the field of gender<br />
and sexuality studies. She contributed an article - ”<strong>Sexuality</strong> <strong>in</strong> Nigeria: A<br />
Historical Perspective” to a 2004 publication of the <strong>Africa</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Sexuality</strong><br />
Resource Centre. In collaboration with others she conducted an <strong>in</strong>vestigation<br />
on the topic “Negotiation and Power Relations”, which <strong>in</strong>volved several<br />
Nigerian Universities. Currently, she is research<strong>in</strong>g on the subject of Food and<br />
<strong>Sexuality</strong> <strong>in</strong> Nigeria, which promises to uncover excit<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>in</strong>formation.<br />
Serk<strong>in</strong>at Lasisi is a postgraduate student and researcher <strong>in</strong> gender and<br />
sexuality <strong>in</strong> the Department of History and Strategic Studies, University of<br />
Lagos, Nigeria. She was a member of a research team that recently worked on<br />
sexual negotiations <strong>in</strong> some Nigerian universities. Her <strong>in</strong>dependent research<br />
work on Islam and <strong>Sexuality</strong> <strong>in</strong> Nigeria is near<strong>in</strong>g completion and promises to<br />
provide important <strong>in</strong>formation <strong>in</strong> this area.
