EASTER PARTy FOR MERCy CENTER
St. Raymond’s Lasallian Youth and Student Council teamed up
to host an Easter party this year for the after care students from
the Mercy Center in the South Bronx. Students from Mercy Center
arrived in vans and took part in games, including an Easter
egg hunt in the school’s back yard, ate pizza and shared an Easter
cake for dessert. Pictured below is Bernard Arzu ‘10 with
students from the Mercy Center after care program.
ST. PATRICk’S NuRSING HOME
On Friday, June 19, 2009 students from St. Raymond volunteered
to be escorts at the first Senior Prom held at St. Patrick’s
Nursing Home. Pictured below is Miguel Aviles ‘11 escorting a
nursing home resident to the prom.
St. Raymond is proud of its commitment to Habitat for Humanity.
Students volunteer their time several times a year building
homes, participating in clean ups and renovations and helping in
the Habitat ReStore—retail Habitat outlets that accept goods
for resale such as furniture, building materials and appliances—
in Yonkers. Beyond donating their time, students have raised
money for Habitat and hosted a Habitat for Humanity speaker
at the school to hear and learn new ways to help out. Pictured
Building site in New Rochelle, a recent Habitat project.
Retreats
Students at St. Raymond participate in retreats each year.
SENIORS attend an overnight retreat at the Capuchin Youth
and Family Ministries retreat house in Garrison, New York. It is
the perfect setting for the retreat which provides an opportunity
for seniors to focus on God in their lives—God in my past, present
and future. There are four senior retreats throughout the
year to allow for all seniors to participate. Students participate
St. Anthony’s
in structured sessions—and get time to relax and enjoy one
another. Pictured below participating in a senior group activity
SOPHOMORES take part in a service retreat at St. Patrick’s
Home for the Aged and Infirmed. In groups of 15, sophomores
spend the day learning about ministering to and working with
the elderly by listening and doing. Students attend a morning
Mass with the residents, an orientation, and then are assigned
to an area for service. Usually students assist recreation coordinators
with activities, transport and accompany residents to
physical/occupational therapy sessions or simply spend time
talking or walking with a resident of St. Patrick’s.
JuNIOR AND FRESHMEN retreats are held at St. Raymond;
they begin with a class Mass and then students participate in a
program presented by Tony Bellizzi, a well known youth minister.
and SaCramentS
On Tuesday, May 12, 2009, nine St. Raymond students were confirmed
