Dear Alums & friends of St. Raymond High School for Boys,
Happy New Year! We were delighted to welcome 198 new Ravens
to the Class of 2013—lined up two by two, school uniforms
and, of course, neatly shaved—for opening day, September 9. It
is always impressive to watch these young boys enter the school
as freshmen knowing that four years later they will leave as welleducated
Christian gentlemen.
We celebrated the Mass of the Holy Spirit on Friday, September
18—the freshmen were in the Lower Church for Mass with Father
William Brogan; I celebrated the Mass with the upperclassmen in
the Main Church. Both celebrations were prayerful and filled with
a spirit of enthusiasm.
At the end of the Mass in the Main Church I asked the senior class
to stand and face the sophomores and juniors —and join me in
the final blessing. I emphasized that they, the seniors, were the
leaders, the role models and the big brothers —and that they had
a responsibility not only to themselves but to the school community.
The seniors participated with a seriousness that was quite
impressive, and we were off to a great start!
You are reading so much good news in this newsletter and I think
you will be very proud of what is happening here—in academics,
in sports, in volunteer service, in school clubs and groups. We are
a 24/7 school. Please note the information and tentative plans for
our Golden Anniversary —hard to believe that we are 50 years
old with so much history and so many wonderful accomplishments.
We will be celebrating for at least a year with Masses, dinners,
family events and sports competitions—just to name a few
events to look forward to. Join us and be part of the celebration.
Once again, thank you for your support and your prayers. We are
very much alive and well. Live Jesus in our hearts forever! St. John
Baptist de La Salle, pray for us!
