and built by them the "Upper-Ground Layout for Burning out Lyddite Shells,"<br />

which was also approved and introduced on June 29, 1921.<br />

Lastly the problem of the burning out of Amatol-filled shells arose before<br />

me, and this question has also been successfullygone over point by point, and the<br />

method lias been approved and introduced, practically by order of the same<br />

French General Inspection of Ammunition, in all Pickett et Fills Factories on<br />

September21, 1921. I also introduced my special rules for burning out Ammonal<br />

shells, grenades, mines, airbombs, etc., filled with different kinds of explosives.<br />

These I am unable to deal with in a short article.<br />

From this chronological description one c'an see what important work was<br />

performed and carried effect most successfully in France. French specialists<br />

greeted my work sympathetically and heartily. One wrote me, for instance, as<br />
