10. The work of Food Craft Institute Hoshiarpur is in progress and likely to be completed in<br />

March 2010. Another proposal for setting up of Food Craft Institute in District Kapurthla is<br />

under consideration. Broad basing hospitality courses are being introduced in the various<br />

schools, ITI’s and Colleges of the state. The historic <strong>For</strong>t in Gobindgarh at Amritsar, built by<br />

Maharaja Ranjit Singh has been transferred by the Army to the Department of Tourism. The<br />

renovation work is proposed to be started during 2010-<strong>11</strong>.<br />

RURAL WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION<br />

65. With an outlay of Rs. 264 crore, the <strong>State</strong> is adhering to its programme for<br />

providing drinking water supply to all rural habitations by 2012. <strong>Punjab</strong> Water Supply &<br />

Sanitation Department is primarily entrusted with the responsibility of providing safe drinking<br />

water to rural population.The coverage status of rural habitation as on 31/03/2010 are given<br />

below: -<br />

66. The <strong>State</strong> Government proposes to cover all remaining 2665 PC and 1595 NC<br />

villages during the <strong>11</strong> th Plan period under World Bank Project and assistance from NABARD<br />

and Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programmes of Government of India. 556 NC, 1367 PC<br />

and 100 OH villages are proposed to be covered during 2010-<strong>11</strong>.<br />

67. An agreement was signed by the <strong>State</strong> Government with World Bank on<br />

26/2/2007 implementing the <strong>Punjab</strong> Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project costing<br />

Rs.1280.30 crore. The project is likely to be completed by 2012-13. The project is financed by<br />

the World Bank to the extent of Rs.751 crore (59%), Government of <strong>Punjab</strong> Rs. 245 crore<br />

(19%), Government of India Rs.207 crore (16%) and Community contribution of Rs. 77 crore<br />

(6%). The project has the following components:<br />

o To cover 739 Not Covered (NC) villages (original target 2124) and 2422 Partially<br />

Covered (PC) villages (original target 720).<br />

o Improvement of existing water supply schemes in 1600 villages<br />

o To provide small bore sewer in 100 villages
