Adarsh Schools have been allotted to private partners.<br />

92. <strong>State</strong> Government launched a programme on 31/12/2007 to upgrade educational<br />

infrastructure in 351 Rural High/Senior Secondary Schools (67 High Schools + 284 Senior<br />

Secondary Schools including 65 science stream schools) through Rs.142 crore NABARD<br />

assisted project. These schools will be equipped with infrastructure facilities such as additional<br />

class rooms, toilets, boundary wall, drinking water facilities, science laboratories etc. The<br />

process for recruitment of lecturers, principals, vocational teachers, librarians etc. for these<br />

schools is underway.<br />

93. <strong>For</strong> setting up of 13 new Model Degree Colleges in 13 districts of the <strong>State</strong> where<br />

GER is low, the approval of UGC has been received. The capital cost per college is Rs. 8 crore,<br />

of which GOI provides 1/3 rd of the cost subject to a limit of Rs 2.67 crore and the balance<br />

requirement of capital cost of Rs. 5.33 Cr along with recurring cost is to be met by the <strong>State</strong><br />

Government. These colleges are proposed to start functioning from the year 2010-<strong>11</strong>.<br />

94. To provide a network of higher learning - A Memorandum of Understanding<br />

(MoU) has been signed on 12/<strong>11</strong>/2008 between <strong>State</strong> Government & Four Founder Supporters<br />

(Max India Limited, Bharti Enterprises, Hero Corporate Service Limited, Punj Lloyd Limited)<br />

and Indian School of Business, Hyderabad on PPP mode for the setting-up of ISB Mohali on the<br />

pattern of ISB Hyderabad. It has been decided in principle to transfer 70 acre of land in<br />

Knowledge City, Sector-81, Mohali. It will start functioning from the academic session 20<strong>11</strong>-12.<br />

95. Admissions to the newly created Rajiv Gandhi National Law University at Patiala<br />

were commenced from 2006-07 & land possession for permanent institution at village Sidhuwal,<br />

district Patiala has been delivered. The total project cost of Rs 60.00 crore. At present the total<br />

number of students is 340 (320 LLB and 20 LLM). The <strong>State</strong> Government has enacted an Act<br />

for establishment of private universities in the <strong>State</strong>.<br />

96. Central University is being set up in Bathinda. The site has been finalized for<br />

setting up of Central University by the Site Selection Committee of GoI. An amount of Rs.<br />

166.00 crore has already been spent for the acquisition of 544 acres land in village Ghuda<br />

(Bathinda) for the establishment of Central University. The university has commenced its first<br />

academic session from the year, 2010. Besides, World Class University near Amritsar is to be<br />
