Since 2006, Heiko
Fehlau is Head of Safety
and Commander at the
Rheinmünster site Fire
Brigade, making sure that
“nothing goes wrong.”
He oversees preventive
fire protection, fire fighting
and site safety. “We
are responsible here for
the safety and health of
the employees and the
people in the neighboring
communities.” Fehlau
enjoys his responsibilities
so much, he can be seen
after work hours equally
active on with the Voluntary
Fire Brigade in his
home town Hügelsheim.
Fehlau has been an active
member in that brigade
for 26 years and he was
awarded the Fire Brigade
Badge of Honor in 2008.
Dow donates to the victims
of the flood disaster in
the Bitterfeld-Wolfen region
in the year 2002.
At all sites employees do their part
to encourage the upcoming generation
to take up scientific or technical occupations.
In 1991, the “Chemistry Project”
starts in Rheinmünster. Once a year,
interested students from the Rheinmünster
Middle School are invited to
the Dow training center. They spend
two days in the site training lab to experiment,
accompanied by theoretical
tutoring. The project has had so much
success that 2010 will mark its 19th
anniversary.
In 2007, Dow starts the project
“Modular education in sciences” for supporting
particularly gifted students at the Georg-Cantor
High School in Halle.
Being open to the community
is paying off. In the year 2005, an independent
polling firm surveyed approximately
3,500 people from around
the Central German locations as well
as the Stade and Rheinmünster sites.
Over 80 percent of those surveyed had
a positive attitude towards the company
as a partner in the region.
