f. Social, economic and cultural rights<br />

With respect to economic, social and cultural rights, CEDAW expressed its concern<br />

about the situation of women in the labour market and a high ratio of women among persons<br />

living in poverty. The Committee recommended that the State strengthen family planning<br />

programmes and facilitate access to contraceptives. Concerning the right to education, CRC<br />

noted the shrinking availability of education in Belarusian language and the varying standards<br />

of and access to education, in particular in rural and lower-income areas. CRC and CERD<br />

welcomed the introduction of human rights education to the school curriculum.<br />

g. Rights of minorities, migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers<br />

The problem of minorities in Belarus is mentioned in a report of the Special<br />

Rapporteur on human rights, noting the deteriorating situation of the Roma minority.<br />

Concerning migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers, UNCT reported major progress in legal<br />

standards and their implementation, at the same time identifying the areas that required<br />

further effort from the State.<br />
