Woodstock’s Strickland finishes fourth in Georgia Amateur Championship
FROM STAFF REPORTS
Highlighted by a 3-under-par 68
in the third round on Saturday,
Woodstock’s Mark Strickland
shot a 3-under 268 for the tournament
to finish in a tie for fourth
in the 88th annual Georgia Amateur
Championship, July 9-12 at
the Country Club of Columbus.
Russell Henley, of Macon, fired
back-to-back 4-under 67’s over
the weekend to finish at 16-under
268 and capture his secondstraight
Georgia Amateur title
The Dealer Alternative
by eight strokes over David Noll,
Jr,. of Dalton.
In winning his second title,
Henley broke his own Georgia
Amateur scoring record of 270
that he set last year on his home
course, Idle Hour Club in Macon.
He also becomes the first champion
to claim back-to-back titles
in 15 years. Carter Mize, of
Columbus, won the 1993 and 1994
titles, and just eight golfers in the
history of the Championship
have won consecutive titles.
