In addition among <strong>the</strong> non-combatants murdered in <strong>the</strong> destruc-<br />
tion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lusitania were A. L. Mc<strong>Gregor</strong> and Mrs, B.<br />
Mc<strong>Gregor</strong> 2<br />
During <strong>the</strong> above period I have noted <strong>the</strong> following honours and<br />
distinctions gained by Mac<strong>Gregor</strong>s:<br />
Mentioned in despatches, nine.<br />
Our Chief, Sir Malcolm Mac<strong>Gregor</strong>, being twice mentioned.<br />
(Since this was written he has been mentioned a third time.)<br />
The Distinguished Conduct Medal has been gained by six Mac-<br />
<strong>Gregor</strong>s (one being J. V. F, Gregg-Macgregor, 1st Field Ambulance<br />
Australian Imperial Force).<br />
One was recommended for gallant and distinguished service in<br />
<strong>the</strong> field.<br />
One won <strong>the</strong> Military Cross.<br />
One <strong>of</strong> those mentioned in despatches was appointed a Companion<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Distinguished Service Order.<br />
Major P. A. Mac<strong>Gregor</strong>, D. S. 0., Coldstream Guards, was promoted<br />
for service, and<br />
Colonel (temporary Major-General) Charles Eoderick Robert<br />
Mc<strong>Gregor</strong>, C. B., C. M. G., was promoted to be Major-General, and<br />
an additional Member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Third Glass, or Companions, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Most<br />
Distinguished Order <strong>of</strong> St. Michael and St. George.<br />
The following are some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> gallant actions which gained <strong>the</strong><br />
above rewards:<br />
Second Lieutenant J. R. Mac<strong>Gregor</strong>, 2nd Bat. Gordon Highlanders<br />
(attached 20th Co. Machine Gun Corps) won <strong>the</strong> Military Cross for<br />
conspicuous gallantry. When <strong>the</strong> enemy had taken in <strong>the</strong>ir wire and<br />
made a gap to get through, he trained his guns on <strong>the</strong> gap and<br />
mounted one gun in a commanding but exposed position. When <strong>the</strong><br />
enemy commenced a very heavy bombardment he went to this gun<br />
