Dr. Bowie died January 1, 1859, both o:" <strong>the</strong>m intostate, and <strong>the</strong><br />

formei- without administration on her estate.<br />

May 27, iS59, Margaret W. Bowie, William M. Bowie and F.<br />

M. Bowie gave bond in <strong>the</strong> sum <strong>of</strong> $30,000 for Margaret W. Bowie as<br />

administratrix.<br />

November 28, 1859, was filed inventory listing 24 slaves, valued<br />

at $18,550, with a total appraiscm.ent <strong>of</strong> $22,874.<br />

June 4, 1867, was reported partial sales amounting to $1,015.82.<br />

February 25, 1868, was passed <strong>the</strong> first and final administration<br />

account.<br />

The accountant charged herself with amount <strong>of</strong> inventory. . $22,874.00<br />

From this was deducted <strong>the</strong> appraised value <strong>of</strong><br />

24 slaves freed by <strong>the</strong> Maryland Constitu-<br />

tion <strong>of</strong> 1864 $18,550.00<br />

Also loss and consumption <strong>of</strong> stock 847.00<br />

Estate to be accounted for $ 3,477.00<br />

A fur<strong>the</strong>r reduction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> estate was made because <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> non-<br />

sale <strong>of</strong> furniture and a gold watch reducing <strong>the</strong> above balance to<br />

$2,720.00. By sales and collections <strong>the</strong> estate was increased to a<br />

value <strong>of</strong> $21,393.10, but reduced by disbursements to $199.66.<br />

The issue <strong>of</strong> Dr. Richard Willirm Bowie and Margaret Weems<br />

Somervell were:<br />

Virginia Bowie, born April 7, 1837; died 1839.<br />

William Francis Bowie, born April 7, 1839; died 1893, unmar-<br />

ried.<br />

Thomas Trueman Somervell Bowie, born June 12, 1842; died<br />

Febri-ary 12, 1910; married Decem.ber 3, 1868, Agnes Woods Mac-<br />

<strong>Gregor</strong>.<br />

Margaret T. Bowie, born 1843; died young.<br />

Margaret Elizabeth Bowie, born October 2, 1844; married October<br />

16, 1866, Roderick Mortimer Mc<strong>Gregor</strong>.<br />

Sarah Maria Suter Bowie, born 1847, died young and unmar-<br />

ried.<br />

Richard Bowie, born October 13, 1843; died 1873, unmarried.<br />

Amelia Hollyday Somervell Bowie, born June 10, 1850.<br />

Mary Trueman Bowie, born 1853; married, 1880, John Wall.<br />

Agnes Louise Bowie, born 1856; married, 1880, Alan P. Bowie.<br />

Francis Magruder Bowie, planter, son <strong>of</strong> Martha Magruder<br />

and William Mordecai Bowie, was born February 12, 1812, s.nd was<br />

but a few weeks old when his mo<strong>the</strong>r died.<br />

He was practically adopted by his aunts Louisa and Eleanor<br />

W. Magruder with whom he lived at Dunblane; and was beneficiary<br />
