IS THIS COURSE FOR ME?<br />

Candidates with a keen interest in the animal care industry who want to develop their<br />

knowledge and skills with a range of animals from domestic pets to horses and exotic<br />

reptiles and birds. The Level 2 Diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSEs<br />

Taught in partnership with Duchy <strong>College</strong><br />

Rosewarne. Delivered at <strong>Helston</strong><br />

<strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> in our new Animal<br />

Care Centre, and at Duchy <strong>College</strong>,<br />

Rosewarne for larger and exotic animals.<br />

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?<br />

Candidates are required to sit an initial<br />

assessment test to show they are able to<br />

work at Level 2. Places are allocated via<br />

interview and initial assessment.<br />

WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?<br />

You will learn the practical skills needed to<br />

look after a range of animals in the animal<br />

care industry; correct handling, feeding<br />

and watering, preparing and maintaining<br />

accommodation, exercise, monitoring<br />

health, farmed animals, animal biology<br />

and general animal welfare.<br />

HOW DO YOU STUDY THE COURSE?<br />

This course requires study for one day per<br />

week during term time over a two year<br />

period. You will have your time split into<br />

approximately half practical and half theory,<br />

with some visits to a range of vocational<br />

venues. Assessment is through a number of<br />

written coursework projects and practical<br />

assessments.<br />

WHAT WILL YOU DO AFTERWARDS?<br />

The NPTC Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care<br />

prepares you for employment and provides<br />

a good grounding to go on to a more<br />

advanced course such as the Level 3<br />

Extended Diploma in Animal Management.<br />

You may go on to find work in areas such as<br />

animal charities, kennels, zoos and animal<br />

collections.<br />

IS THIS COURSE FOR ME?<br />

This course is for anyone who is considering a career in the beauty industry. Whether that is<br />

in a salon, cruise ship or health spa. This course aims to give you confidence and knowledge<br />

about beauty therapy enabling you to enter the industry or progress on to higher courses<br />

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?<br />

No previous knowledge required but<br />

students are expected to have a pleasant<br />

personality, a high standard of presentation<br />

and good communication skills.<br />

WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?<br />

This course is delivered here at <strong>Helston</strong><br />

<strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> in our own well<br />

equipped salon which is open to the<br />

general public. You will be expected to<br />

attend college two and a half days a week.<br />

201: Working in the beauty industries<br />

202: Following health and safety in the salon<br />

203: Client care and communication in<br />

beauty related industries<br />

205: Promote products and services to<br />

clients in a salon<br />

216: Salon reception duties<br />

204: Provide facial skincare<br />

206: Remove hair using waxing techniques<br />

207: Provide manicure treatments<br />

208: Provide pedicure treatments<br />

209: Apply make up<br />

210: Provide eyelash and eyebrow treatments<br />

214: Provide and maintain nail enhancements<br />

215: Provide nail art<br />

218: Eyelash perming<br />

223: Apply skin tanning techniques<br />

HOW WILL MY WORK BE ASSESSED?<br />

Assessments are carried out in a wide<br />

range of different styles:<br />

> Observation of practical skills<br />

> Written assignments<br />

> Written questions<br />

> Online examination<br />

The course is assessed by student-led<br />

assessments, which means the student<br />

decides when they are ready to be assessed.<br />

WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?<br />

After successfully completing the course<br />

students can then progress on to level 3<br />

courses in Beauty Therapy.<br />
