IS THIS COURSE FOR ME?
Candidates with a keen interest in the animal care industry who want to develop their
knowledge and skills with a range of animals from domestic pets to horses and exotic
reptiles and birds. The Level 2 Diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSEs
Taught in partnership with Duchy College
Rosewarne. Delivered at Helston
Community College in our new Animal
Care Centre, and at Duchy College,
Rosewarne for larger and exotic animals.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?
Candidates are required to sit an initial
assessment test to show they are able to
work at Level 2. Places are allocated via
interview and initial assessment.
WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?
You will learn the practical skills needed to
look after a range of animals in the animal
care industry; correct handling, feeding
and watering, preparing and maintaining
accommodation, exercise, monitoring
health, farmed animals, animal biology
and general animal welfare.
HOW DO YOU STUDY THE COURSE?
This course requires study for one day per
week during term time over a two year
period. You will have your time split into
approximately half practical and half theory,
with some visits to a range of vocational
venues. Assessment is through a number of
written coursework projects and practical
assessments.
WHAT WILL YOU DO AFTERWARDS?
The NPTC Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care
prepares you for employment and provides
a good grounding to go on to a more
advanced course such as the Level 3
Extended Diploma in Animal Management.
You may go on to find work in areas such as
animal charities, kennels, zoos and animal
collections.

IS THIS COURSE FOR ME?
This course is for anyone who is considering a career in the beauty industry. Whether that is
in a salon, cruise ship or health spa. This course aims to give you confidence and knowledge
about beauty therapy enabling you to enter the industry or progress on to higher courses
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?
No previous knowledge required but
students are expected to have a pleasant
personality, a high standard of presentation
and good communication skills.
WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?
This course is delivered here at Helston
Community College in our own well
equipped salon which is open to the
general public. You will be expected to
attend college two and a half days a week.

202: Following health and safety in the salon
203: Client care and communication in
beauty related industries
205: Promote products and services to
clients in a salon
216: Salon reception duties
204: Provide facial skincare
206: Remove hair using waxing techniques
207: Provide manicure treatments
208: Provide pedicure treatments
209: Apply make up
210: Provide eyelash and eyebrow treatments
214: Provide and maintain nail enhancements
215: Provide nail art
218: Eyelash perming
223: Apply skin tanning techniques
HOW WILL MY WORK BE ASSESSED?
Assessments are carried out in a wide
range of different styles:
> Observation of practical skills
> Written assignments
> Written questions
> Online examination
The course is assessed by student-led
assessments, which means the student
decides when they are ready to be assessed.
WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?
After successfully completing the course
students can then progress on to level 3
courses in Beauty Therapy.
