IS THIS COURSE FOR ME?<br />
The Diploma has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using<br />
simulated conditions. The award is broken into separate routes eg: Building Technology;<br />
Health and Safety; Bricklaying; Painting and Decorating; Plastering; Roofing; Carpentry;<br />
Blocklaying. In addition to the course is: Health and Safety Safe Site Operative Card (CSCS)<br />
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?<br />
No qualifications are required but<br />
candidates are expected to be enthusiastic<br />
about training for this skill shortage area.<br />
A certain amount of fitness is necessary.<br />
WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?<br />
Each Diploma route comprises:<br />
> Core units<br />
> Occupation specific units<br />
> Work experience and Key Skills<br />
The occupation specific units are based on<br />
skills and are tested by observation.<br />
HOW WILL MY WORK BE ASSESSED?<br />
To gain the award candidates have to be<br />
successful in all units, but each unit is<br />
accredited and on a separate basis.<br />
Candidates will also pass an independent<br />
health and safety test. Work based<br />
evidence from work experience (witness<br />
statements and work diaries).<br />
WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?<br />
An important feature of the Diploma is<br />
that it provides a progression route towards<br />
achieving a National Vocational Qualification<br />
(NVQ) at Level 2 and Level 3 or employment<br />
in this skill shortage area.<br />

A GCSE in English and Maths<br />
WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?<br />
Students will work towards passing seven<br />
online tests, with a mixture of self study<br />
and taught lessons.<br />
Typical units are:<br />
> Word<br />
> Powerpoint<br />
> Excel<br />
> Email and the internet<br />
> Security<br />
> Computer Fundamentals<br />
> Improving Productivity<br />
The work is of a very practical nature and is<br />
usually computer based.<br />
HOW WILL MY WORK BE ASSESSED?<br />
Each pupil will take an assessment test<br />
for each unit. This will be followed by a 45<br />
minute online exam for each module.<br />
WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?<br />
Many employers value the ECDL<br />
qualification highly. Companies such as<br />
ASDA, BP and the NHS routinely put their<br />
employees through this qualification.<br />
The skills learnt are valuable and transferrable<br />
to many employment situations.<br />
