PROGRAM
HIGHLIGHT
MANUFACTURING, ENGINEERING, AND TECHNOLOGY
Maryland’s Project Lead The Way (PLTW) program is a sequence of courses which, when combined with
traditional mathematics and science courses in high school, introduces students to the scope, rigor, and
discipline of engineering and engineering technology prior to entering college. There are eight courses in
the PLTW program which are divided into three groups: Foundation (Principles of Engineering, Introduction
to Engineering Design and Digital Electronics); Pathway (Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Civil
Engineering and Architecture, Aerospace Engineering and Biotechnical Engineering); and Capstone
(Engineering Design and Development). Students in the Project Lead The Way pre-engineering program
take all of the foundation courses, one pathway course, and the capstone course. Opportunities to earn
articulated credit are offered to students who successfully complete the requirements for entrance into the
two- or four-year college program.
