PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Welcome back! We are all rested after another
wonderful Manitoba summer, and are excited and
happy to be back at Radisson. We hope your children
are too! Our priorities at Radisson this year include
improving literacy and numeracy skills; assessment and
the implementation of the new provincial report card;
and continuing to ensure that Radisson is a safe and
welcoming place for students, with a focus on our
hallway routines and behaviours. As you are aware,
last year we began electronic communication with many
of our families, sending home information via email.
We will resume that this year once we learn how to do
that in our new system.
We look forward to working again with you this year.
Together we can make a difference. Please feel free
to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or
relevant information that would be helpful.
PLAYGROUND HOURS
Our school hours are listed in the box to the right. In the
mornings, outdoor supervision does not start until 8:35 a.m.
and at lunch, for students not in the lunch program, outdoor
supervision does not begin until 12:30 p.m. Please do not send
your child(ren) prior to these times.
NO CHILD WITHOUT
Our school is involved in the Canadian MedicAlert Foundation's No Child Without program. There is no
cost for students who attend our school and are between the ages of 4 up to their 14 th
birthday to join MedicAlert through this program. If your child has a medical condition,
allergy or is required to take medication on a regular basis, then you should consider this
program. A child's MedicAlert identification can alert school staff, friends, coaches and others
about your child's medical condition should an emergency occur.
For further information go to www.nochildwithout.ca. To register your child you will need a No Child
Without brochure available at the school office.
If your child is already part of the No Child Without program and there have been changes to their
medical condition, medications or emergency contact information, call MedicAlert at 1-800-668-1507 to
update your child's file.

RIVER EAST TRANSCONA SCHOOL DIVISION POLICIES
DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY
As you may be aware the Division has a policy on drug and alcohol use. The complete policy is available on the web
site at: http://www.retsd.mb.ca/site/about/policy/j/JICH.pdf The policy has been adopted in the interest of the
health, safety, social and emotional well being of all students. The policy outlines 3 key areas: prevention,
intervention and consequences. Families are encouraged to become familiar with this policy and contact the school
with any questions or concerns.
SEARCH POLICY
In addition, the Division has a policy guiding actions in the event a student and/or his/her possessions require
searching. The complete policy is available at www.retsd.mb.ca/site/about/policy/j/JIH-R.pdf
Families are encouraged to become familiar with these policies and contact the school with any questions or
concerns.
ANAPHYLAXIS POLICY
The Division recognizes that some students attending schools may require the administration of medication in
response to an acute allergic reaction. Therefore for the safety of students, staff, and parents/guardians,
“Anaphylaxis Procedures” and “Anaphylaxis Avoidance Strategies” must be followed within the division. The
complete policy is available on the website at:
http://www.retsd.mb.ca/site/about/policy/j/JLCG-R1.pdf , and JLCG-R2
You may also get a copy at the office.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!
It is not unusual for head lice to be present in schools. Lice are very common, and anyone can get
them, though they usually affect children. Lice don‟t spread disease, and having head lice is not a sign
of uncleanliness or poor hygiene.
If your child brings home several pink sheets on lice, it means that a child in his/her classroom has lice. We ask
that you read the handouts carefully, and diligently check your child‟s head every day for 2 weeks. The best
chance to control lice is to catch it early and to treat it, before it can continue to spread.
We thank you, in advance, for your cooperation.
PATROL POSTS
As we start a new year, we have been observing and analyzing our current patrol
posts. We realize we have some overlap, and some spots where patrols are
currently posted, where no students actually cross. As a result, we are realigning
where some of our patrols are posted.
Supporting the safe crossing of students is our priority. At the intersections near the school
that are staffed by patrols, although there may not be a patrol on each corner, we have tried to
ensure that there is a route to cross the street that is served by patrols. Please advise your
children to cross the street where the patrols are located.
Please contact the school if you have any concerns, or you have noticed any gaps.
COMMUNITY CONNECTOR NEWS
Hello! My name is Jennifer Hoeffs and I am the new Community Connector for
Radisson school. I had the pleasure of meeting some of you at our Meet the
Teacher event and I shared some „‟ stay n‟ playdough” with our preschool aged
friends. If you didn‟t get a chance to grab some playdough you still can by coming
to our Stay and Play program. Beginning Thursday October 4 th from 9-11am we will have fun
playing, meeting new friends, and eating a healthy and yummy snack. If you have a preschooler
and would like a chance to connect with other parents over a cup of coffee, I would love to see
you. The program is free of charge and no registration is required.
If you have any questions for me or have any ideas of what you feel makes a family friendly
school, I would love to hear from you. I am generally in the school Monday through Thursday
mornings so you can catch me by calling or dropping in during that time.
I look forward to the opportunity of getting to know you and the students at Radisson. I am
already impressed by the kindness and respect that flows through the hallways. It has been a
great start and I know it will be a great year.
