Pfizer has lent support to the Department <strong>of</strong> Clinical<br />
Studies at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital to help start the<br />
Veterinary Clinical Investigations Center (VCIC), where<br />
clinical trials are conducted to investigate new methods <strong>of</strong><br />
prevention, diagnosis and/or treatment <strong>of</strong> disease.<br />
<strong>Many</strong> naturally occurring diseases in pet animals closely<br />
resemble human diseases and provide meaningful results<br />
that may benefit both people and animals. Clinical trials<br />
are extremely important in improving treatment options<br />
available. <strong>Many</strong> effective treatments are available today<br />
because <strong>of</strong> both laboratory research and patient participation<br />
in clinical trials. Clinical trials are very rewarding<br />
for the pet, its family, the veterinary investigator and—<br />
perhaps most importantly—future patients with the same<br />
condition.<br />
Recent clinical trials at the VCIC have included studies in<br />
oncology, pain management and benign prostatic<br />
