3. Turn on the drive by moving the power switch to On or Auto (drive powers<br />
on/hibernates automatically). The drive will mount in My Computer (Windows)<br />
or on your desktop (Mac).<br />
4. <strong>LaCie</strong> <strong>4big</strong> <strong>Quadra</strong> Enterprise Class comes with four 3.5” SATA II Enterprise-class<br />
hard disks installed. The disks are formatted in HFS+, so Windows users will<br />
need to reformat the disks before using the <strong>4big</strong> <strong>Quadra</strong>. Please see the<br />
detailed User Manual on the <strong>LaCie</strong> CD-ROM for information on formatting hard disks.<br />
5. The disks are configured in RAID 5. If you would like to change the RAID mode,<br />
see Changing the RAID Mode on the next page.<br />
6. Install the <strong>LaCie</strong> Desktop Manager software from the CD-ROM in order to<br />
configure encryption and the Shortcut button.<br />
CAUTION: The encryption process requires the drives to be reformatted, which will<br />
erase data stored on the <strong>4big</strong> <strong>Quadra</strong>. Back up data before enabling encryption.<br />
NOTE: <strong>LaCie</strong> Enterprise Class encryption offers a very high level of protection for<br />
your most important data. Due to the strength of the encryption, data recovery will<br />
not be possible in the unlikely event of disk or part failure.
