As Lundquist College of Business continues to push forward with
innovative centers and initiatives, the college’s graduate programs are
growing with new spaces, more M.B.A. students, and a re-activated
Ph.D. specialization.
The MAcc Program suite provides a
much-needed space for students to
collaborate and interact.
Peterson Hall is more crowded these days, with students filling the small group work
rooms and the graduate lounge at most hours of the day. That’s because M.B.A. enrollment
has increased 34 percent in the past year—from forty-four to fifty-nine students. In
addition, the program now boasts nineteen international students, mostly from East Asia.
Incoming students in fall 2007 also had an average GPA of 3.30—the highest it has ever
been—and four-and-half years of previous work experience. Assistant Dean of Graduate
Programs Andrew Verner explained that word is spreading about the Oregon M.B.A. abroad
and noted that he recently traveled to Tokyo, Taipei, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, and
Guangzhou to promote the program.
The MAcc Program finally has an official home in the remodeled Peterson Hall in the
Lillis Business Complex. All MAcc students have key-code access to the program’s suite
anytime the building is open, providing them with a place to study, collaborate on team
projects, check e-mail, and more. According to MAcc Program Director Robin Clement,
“Students gravitated to the space immediately, and because it is adjacent to M.B.A.
facilities, the space is encouraging more interaction among students in the two programs.”
That increased interaction, Clement added, is also symbolic of the expanding relationships
among the MAcc Program and the college’s hallmark centers, especially the new Securities
Analysis Center.
