Contrary to received wisdom, Franck found his creative voice before the age of 50,
whereas his chamber works very much emulated the style of his mentor, Liszt. In
this first genuinely complete recording of Cesar Franck's chamber music, the trios,
the sonata, the piano quintet and the string quartet are a wealth of smaller
pieces and provide further evidence of Franck’s particular inspiration. This set has
been produced in collaboration with La Monnaie and serves as a showcase for
principal members of its orchestra, who are partnered by the pianist David Lively.
