20 <strong>MSHS</strong> CONNECTIONS • Graduation 20<strong>10</strong><br />

The Molecular Genetics Laboratory greatly<br />

benefited from the <strong>10</strong>-week projects that were<br />

given to students Matthew olson and nicole<br />

rayburn. rayburn worked on the six-reaction<br />

galactosemia assay to change the technology from<br />

the current LightCycler platform to the new<br />

LightCycler 480 ii. olson developed a Molecular<br />

Genetics Variation database to store genetic<br />

variants discovered by laboratory testing.<br />

With Distinction<br />

Nicole Rayburn received the Fall 2009 outstanding<br />

Student Practitioners award. nominations are<br />

reviewed by the laboratory medicine faculty.<br />

Students receiving this award are recognized for<br />

their ambassadorship, service, initiative, team<br />

leadership, disposition and performance.<br />
