Program Update<br />

<strong>MSHS</strong> CONNECTIONS • Graduation 20<strong>10</strong><br />

The audiology department at <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong>’s<br />

campus in arizona was happy to welcome two<br />

outstanding doctor of audiology (aud) students.<br />

these students completed clinical rotations in<br />

the areas of cochlear implants, vestibular testing,<br />

hearing aids, and diagnostic testing. they also<br />

had the opportunity to participate in ongoing<br />

research projects.<br />

the department is also pleased to announce<br />

that former fourth-year extern Erin Castioni<br />

accepted a position at Elks Hearing and Balance<br />

Center, Boise, idaho, and extern rindy ito accepted<br />

a research position at the university of oregon.<br />

the program in 20<strong>10</strong>:<br />

Dana Gladd, university of Wisconsin, is a fourthyear<br />

graduate student from the university of<br />

Wisconsin in Madison. From 2007 to 20<strong>10</strong>, she<br />

received a scholarship for academic excellence.<br />

She was selected to complete a summer<br />

research traineeship at the national Center for<br />

rehabilitative auditory research in 2009, which<br />

looked at auditory rehabilitation and ototoxicity<br />

in relation to noise.<br />

in 2008, she was accepted into and completed<br />

the Leadership Education in neurodevelopment<br />

and related disabilities Program, which focused<br />

on promoting care for families of children with<br />

special needs.<br />

Aileen Wong, university of arizona, is<br />

a recipient of the rebecca rutz Graduate<br />

assistantship, the Susan and thomas Cordell<br />

Scholarship, and the Midtown Sertoma of<br />

tucson audiology Scholarship.<br />

in 2009, she was awarded the College of Science<br />

outstanding Graduate Student Service award<br />

for creating a departmental peer mentoring<br />

program. Wong was selected to participate in<br />

the training for research and academic Careers<br />

in Communication Sciences (traCCS) summer<br />

research program at indiana university in 2007.<br />

She focused on speech perception research.<br />
