Issue 317 - Our Own News - December 2009
I had, in my preparations for this entry, designed an article that gave a full serve to Kevin ’07 for his amazingly brutal and inhumane
treatment of refugees that has come out of a policy that mirrors, almost exactly, the brutality forced upon human beings by the
Howard Conservative Tory Government. It still amazes me that the remaining Tories, including Howard, still think that Rudd is not
tough enough (May God preserve us from petty Dictators!). I will give this serve to Kevin ’07, but it needs, perhaps, to wait until all
the combinations and permutations have worked their evil out.
In the meantime I have been overwhelmed by the generosity, good will, and positive prayers, thoughts and meditations of the whole
community regarding two major issues facing my life and that of my wife, Kerry.
The first!! Hopefully, everyone now knows that Kerry has been the victim of Breast Cancer. Also, hopefully, everyone now knows
that she has undergone surgery and the prognosis looks extremely positive. We still have a long way to go. But all I want to do is to
say “Allelujah”. Well, not all!!!! I am also aware of other local women who have Breast Cancer for whom the prognosis is not as
good. My heart goes out to you and to your partners. What I want is that we should all join together, believers and non-believers, in
such an overwhelming statement of positive and prayerful opposition to this evil, that its power and influence may be reduced and
that we may be in power and control. However it is not only Breast Cancer. It is all forms of Cancer. There are many who are
suffering; men, women and children. Is it life-style? Is it genetic? Is it hormonal? Is it an influence far beyond our understanding at
this stage in history?
The second!! As a result of my appearance in the Valley Artists Play, as part of the “Barbershop Quartet”, I have had a revelation. My
wife says that I am a Ham. So be it! However, to be a grey-haired Ham in the presence of such a distinguished company of young,
accomplished actors is a privilege indeed. This is my first appearance as a Valley Artists Artiste. I hope that it is not the last.
However it has been my incredible privilege to be a part of a hoary old crew who carries extreme respect for, and receives the
respect from, such a young and talented crew of performers.
Valley Artists, may you ever seek to encourage young talent into your midst. May you ever seek to encourage the old and hoary as
artists and as mentors to the young.
