Community news for Wollombi and surrounding districts
Issue 317 - Our Own News - December 2009
A total of $2000 in prize money is on offer to local Aboriginal artists entering the 2010 NPWS Aboriginal Art Competition.
Aboriginal people are invited to submit original artworks to the competition which will provide an opportunity for local artists
across the Central Coast and Hunter Regions.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Regional Manager Tom Bagnat said that the art competition was an exciting new
program which would highlight the talent of local Aboriginal artists.
“This competition is a great opportunity for artists, both young and old, to demonstrate their skills and show their work.
“We are looking forward to receiving a vibrant and diverse range of entries that address the theme of “Connection to Country –
Central Coast / Hunter”.
“It’s clear that local Aboriginal people have a connection to the landscape. We hope that this art competition will encourage artists
to express this connection and allow them to share their stories,” said Mr Bagnat.
Entries will be accepted for two categories, Open and Youth (17 years and under). The prizes consist of:
Open 1st Prize $1,000
2nd Prize $ 500.00
Youth 1st Prize $ 300.00
2nd Prize $ 200.00
Completed entry forms together with a photograph of the entered artwork are required by 17th February 2010. Entries will be
short listed using the photos and those selected by the judges will be required to send their artwork in for final judging by
8th March 2010.
The competition is co-sponsored by National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Central Coast Hunter Range Regional Aboriginal
Co-management Committee.
For further information or an entry form contact Susan Davis on Ph 4320 4233 or email central.coast@environment.nsw.gov.au.
