Dispatch from Laguna Public School
Things are really happening at Laguna in this very busy but
very exciting time of year.
Our students have spent time making candle-lit lanterns at
school in order to participate in the magical and atmospheric
lantern parade, conducted as part of the Wollombi Country
Fair. It was terrific to see so many parents and children on the
Saturday night, especially since it was also the closing night for
The Ugly Duckling, in which our students Sam Williams, Max
Kamatsos, Lauren Boxall, Hannah Udodzik and Harmony
Forrest performed. We are very proud of them for seeing
through their commitment in enhancing the artistic
endeavours of our community!
Presentation Night 2009 looms ever closer – it is THE
event of our school calendar. We will be farewelling our Year 6
students – Sophie Bailey, Lauren Boxall, EJ Tietie, Fergus
Pengelly, Sam Williams and Max Kamatsos – as well as awarding
prizes for outstanding achievements over the year and
providing a level of entertainment not seen since Presentation
Night 2008. It is our chance to proudly present our school to
the community, and all school families and community
members are invited to join us from 6.00pm Tuesday, 8th
December at Laguna Hall.
As sad as it to farewell our Year 6 students, we also look
forward to a new batch of Kindergarten students in 2010. We
have held 5 orientation days during the year to date, with our
final day on Friday 11th December. Students and staff alike
look forward to Katelyn, Max, Oliver, Sam, Clio, Ben, Jessica and
Lochee beginning life at Laguna PS in 2010!
We have many more events ahead on the calendar. Students
will undertake a week of swimming lessons at Kurri pool in
conjunction with Wollombi and Congewai schools. A big thank
you to Simone Smith for organising this, along with the Bike
and Tag Football days earlier this term. Our students will be
singing Christmas carols at St Marks, Laguna on the afternoon
of Tuesday 15th December, always a fun event.
At this point in the year it is appropriate to reflect on the
amazing contributions of so many people who help to make
Laguna PS the excellent school that it is. Staff, parents,
community members teach students, fund-raise, provide
specialist learning, maintain grounds and buildings, share skills
and experiences, provide support for camps and excursions,
produce newsletters and much, much more. A massive thankyou
to everyone for your efforts in 2009. Craig Howe
Preschool Patter
On behalf of the staff and children of Wollombi preschool, I
would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to
everyone who has pitched in this year to help get our
preschool (and our 3 other reschool venues) running effectively
and looking great. To the people who donated things and their
time, bought raffle tickets and offered support - thank you. To
our wonderful parents, past, present and future - thank you for
your time and love for the preschool. Merry Christmas to
everyone - we are looking forward to reporting on a bright
future in 2010!
Wollombi Fire Brigade turns 50
October this year saw the fiftieth anniversary of the formation
of Wollombi Volunteer Bushfire Brigade. The Brigade is hoping
to mark this occasion at Christmas and also to start collecting
material for a small "museum of fire" at the Station. If anyone
in the community has any photos, memorabilia, funny/sad
stories, please contact me on 49983208 so they we can
document or copy items provided.
Thanks, Tony Hawkins - Wollombi RFB
