<strong>in</strong> the way the manufacturer<br />

2008. The <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />
concrete cutt<strong>in</strong>g championships<br />
became a<br />
real hit which was<br />
even more strengthened<br />
dur<strong>in</strong>g the Grand<br />
F<strong>in</strong>ale i January. More<br />
then 600 people gathered<br />
<strong>in</strong> Innsbruck to see<br />
the f<strong>in</strong>alen which was<br />
won by Denmark’s Kim<br />
Guldbæk.<br />

The European Championship of the TYROLIT Cutt<strong>in</strong>g Pro<br />
Competition was the crown<strong>in</strong>g f<strong>in</strong>ale of the 2008 event. On<br />
22 January 2009 more than 600 visitors experienced a brilliant<br />
f<strong>in</strong>al <strong>in</strong> the Messehalle Innsbruck. In the end, the result was<br />
extremely close: Kim Guldbæk (Nordjysk Diamantbor<strong>in</strong>g og<br />
Skær) from Denmark won just one po<strong>in</strong>t ahead of Paul Maurer<br />
(Meister Betontrenn-Technik) from Switzerland.<br />
Inspir<strong>in</strong>g supporters<br />
Cheered on by the fan clubs from their home countries, the<br />
16 national Cutt<strong>in</strong>g Pro champions showed their exceptional<br />
skills <strong>in</strong> the three exercises wall saw<strong>in</strong>g, core drill<strong>in</strong>g and hand<br />
saw<strong>in</strong>g. It was clear from the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g that superior proficiency,<br />
know-how and experience would not be sufficient to<br />
w<strong>in</strong> this championship. The fastest athletes were those who<br />
mastered the given conditions, live on stage, <strong>in</strong> the limelight<br />
and <strong>in</strong> front of fans go<strong>in</strong>g wild by keep<strong>in</strong>g cool and concentrat<strong>in</strong>g<br />
on their task, whilst be<strong>in</strong>g encouraged by the TV presenter<br />
Charlotte Engelhardt.<br />
In the visitor’s area, the excitement was close to boil<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
Vik<strong>in</strong>gs blew their horns for the Norwegian Sve<strong>in</strong> Roger Bye<br />
(Moby). Cow bells chim<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> a sea of Swiss fans, each dressed<br />
<strong>in</strong> T-Shirts <strong>in</strong> their national colours, motivated Paul Maurer<br />
(Meister) and Urs Birrer (Bibi Betonbohrungen). Enthusiastic<br />
Spaniards drove their Spanish Champion Miguel Zollo Sevilla<br />
(Perforación y Corte Saldaña) to an outstand<strong>in</strong>g performance.<br />
The Austrian Markus Netztaler (Schaidraiter) made use of his<br />
home advantage and the wave of excitement.<br />
Dur<strong>in</strong>g the award ceremony, the enthusiasm of the athletes<br />
came through and turned this last part of the competition<br />
<strong>in</strong>to the emotional climax of the even<strong>in</strong>g. The spectacle faded<br />
out with a great party. An essential part <strong>in</strong> the success of the<br />
event was the enterta<strong>in</strong>ment provided by the Cheerleaders of<br />
the Swarco Raiders, the drummers of Beats & Noises as well<br />
as the rock band Groovebreakers.<br />

First prize w<strong>in</strong>ner was Kim Guldbæk from Denmark. Second plac<br />
just one po<strong>in</strong>t less then Kim. Third place w<strong>in</strong>ners were Miguel Zo<br />
from Norway and Markus Netztaler from Austria.<br />
Construction competition<br />
The wealth of knowledge that the construction professionals<br />
possess <strong>in</strong> the use of Tyrolit technology, gave the Tyrolean<br />
abrasives manufacturer the idea for a competition. The Cutt<strong>in</strong>g<br />
Pro Competition was the first <strong>in</strong>ternational competition<br />
for concrete cutt<strong>in</strong>g and drill<strong>in</strong>g. The 16 heat w<strong>in</strong>ners and<br />
runners-up from a total of 10 countries have honed their<br />
skill, speed, strength and spirit to a f<strong>in</strong>e art. The f<strong>in</strong>alist
