How to use 1
Points on Lower and Upper Arcade
Floating points is very easy with Swissfloat.
• Lower arcade:
Full mouth speculum necessary. Position
the shaft from the medial (lingual) side in
the points to be floated. Alter the angle of
• Upper arcade:
With or without speculum. Position the
shaft between cheek and molars. Alter
angle towards arcade (30-60 degrees)
Hooks on Lower Arcade
the shaft around the desired 45 degrees
and move the shaft rostro-caudally while
floating.
while moving the shaft rostrally and
caudally.
The Swissfloat is the best instrument to float hooks on 311 and 411, gentle and fast.
If space allows, you can place the shaft
between the two arcades and float the
hooks. If this is not possible due to the
size of the hook, work your way to the
hook from the lingual (medial) side.
For hooks on 306 and 406, see bit seat
below.
How to use 2
Hooks on Upper Arcade
The Swissfloat is the best instrument to float hooks, gentle and fast.
Hooks on 106 and 206: These hooks are
floated straight from the front and need
rounding of the rostral aspect of the tooth
Hooks on 111 and 211: if space allows,
you can place the shaft between the two
arcades and float the hooks. If this is not
possible due to the size of the hook, work
your way to the hook from the buccal
Incisors and Canines
by placing the float diagonally from both
sides.
(lateral) side. You may consider lowering
the speculum on the affected side to
decrease the tension between cheek and
tooth.
The large grinding disk of the Swissfloat floats incisors very efficiently and very accurately.
Regular Swissfloat (17" or 21") model:
Preset the desired speed on the
thumbwheel of the trigger (corded Hitachi
motor only) and lock the trigger. Hold the
instrument between your arm and your
body, or place it over your shoulder. Have
one hand on the head of the float and the
other hand on the incisors for perfect
guidance.
Swissfloat 7" incisor model: The shorter
incisor model has no disk guards. Grinding
pictures: see next page
incisors is very easy with this model. You
can hold this short instrument with one
hand while the other hand holds the
mandible or maxilla for perfect guidance.
Canines can be floated very easily with the
Swissfloat. Use the same technique as
described above. Have one hand on the
grinding head for better guidance. You
may consider using a Swissvet Incisor
Speculum (see our accessories link).
Bit Seat
Bit seats are easily performed with the Swissfloat.
Repeat the following procedure until the
desired degree of floating is achieved:
Hold the head on 306 and 406. Press the
head down while pulling the shaft
rostrally. Repeat the procedure until the
desired result is reached. Perfect rounding
of the teeth is achieved by placing the
float diagonally and float from both sides
as well.
Be careful not opening a pulp cavity while
doing the procedure.
