Body up to 50mm. in diameter and becoming strongly caespitose with<br />

age soon forming large clumps 150mm. or more in diameter.<br />

Epidermis deep green.<br />

Areoles circular with sparse white wool.<br />

Spines numerous, c. 40, undifferentiated into radials and centrals and<br />

arranged like needles on a pin cushion. Spines up to 5mm. long,<br />

whitish, sometimes becoming brownish at <strong>the</strong> base.<br />

Flowers large, up to 40mm. long and 35mm. in diameter, bright red. 6 lobed<br />

stigma, style pinkish, filaments golden yellow.<br />

Fruit 6mm. in diameter, orange-red.<br />

Seeds black, shining.<br />

Type locality Tucuman, N. Argentina. Map 3, No. 61.<br />

Notes One of <strong>the</strong> easiest and most widely grown of all species of Cacti. It<br />

can be flowered when only 1 year old from seed. It was <strong>the</strong> first<br />

species of Rebutia to be described.<br />

There is a form in cultivation R. minuscula f. grandiflora which has a<br />

very elongated flower tube making <strong>the</strong> flower 70mm. long.<br />

Body up to 5cm. in diameter becoming caespitose with age, individual<br />

heads becoming elongated.<br />

Areoles circular with white wool.<br />

Spines pure white, soft bristle like, centrals indistinguishable from <strong>the</strong><br />

radials. 6mm. long, 50-55 in number.<br />
