Situation in the country
There is no governmental plan of in-Situ or on-farm conservation in Greece. A great
number of rare varieties have already vanished. What is still extisting relies on the
enthusiasm of few farmers. Ex situ conservation is practised by NARF (National Agricultural
Research Foundation). Subtropical plants and olives are conserved ex-Situ by the Institute
of Chania (Mr. Lionakis and Mr. Protopapadakis; Chania-Crete, 73100 Greece).
