The Fiji Society of Radiographers<br />
is assisting our Ministry of Health<br />
in the presentations of the Draft Radiation<br />
Health Bills & Medical Radiation<br />
Technologists bill. The 2005<br />
Radiation Protection Survey helps<br />
us alot in providing examples from<br />
other countries to the members of<br />
the sector committee who will report to the sitting of parliament<br />
in February 2007.<br />

The Indian Association of Radiological<br />
Technologists organised its<br />
8th National conference for the Radiological<br />
Technologists for two days<br />
from November 11-12, 2006 at Pune<br />
(Maharashtra) in India. The theme of<br />
this conference was “Education and<br />
Training-Key to Radiology”, this<br />
conference was hosted by Faculty of Imaging Sciences,<br />
Symbiosis Department of Health Sciences (a constituent of<br />
Symbiosis International Educational Centre Deemed University)<br />
with Ms. Rachna Murdeshwar as chairperson. More<br />
than 350 delegates from different parts of India comprising<br />
of radiological technologists, radiographers, radiologists,<br />
medical physicists, educationists, nursing staff, representatives<br />
of trade and trainee students attended this conference.<br />
This conference was inaugurated by Mrs Vidya Yeravedkar,<br />
Joint Director Symbiosis International Educational<br />
Centre, Deemed University and eminent radiologist from<br />
New Delhi Prof. S.K. Bhargava was the guest of Honour on<br />
this occasion.<br />
Wide ranging topics covering conventional radiography,<br />
interventional radiology, newer imaging modalities,<br />
radiological physics, radiation protection, quality assurance<br />
in radio-diagnosis and radiotherapy apart from innovative<br />
teaching in radiology as well as future of radiological technology<br />
and manpower development were discussed including<br />
a large number of scientific posters were displayed. To<br />
give a unique taste of Maharashtra style hospitality, delegates<br />
were taken to sprawling Gokul Lawn for dinner and dance<br />
which was<br />
really a wonderfulexperienceenjoyed<br />
by all.<br />

council for radiological technologists/radiographers<br />
in India to stop the mushrooming of unauthorized X-ray<br />
clinics as well as X-ray training centres etc.<br />
On the first day of conference in the evening executive<br />
committee meeting of IART office bearers was held, whereas<br />
on the last day after the end of the conference general<br />
body meeting of the IART members was also held. Apart<br />
from other discussions the participants were also informed<br />
to put extra efforts so that the next 16th Asian conference<br />
/ 9th National conference of IART which is to be held on<br />
15th November to 18th November 2007 at PGIMER, Chandigarh<br />
should be attended by a large radiological fraternity<br />
both from India and abroad. For which due publicity is being<br />
given both by way of print and electronic media. Also<br />
a poster of first announcement will be sent to <strong>ISRRT</strong> and<br />
Asian/other national society council members for publication<br />
in the forthcoming issue of <strong>ISRRT</strong> newsletter as well<br />
in their respective national association/society journals and<br />
websites.<br />
