Olaya
Los territorios que actualmente ocupa el municipio de Olaya,
pertenecieron durante el siglo XIX a los distritos de Sucre
y Sacaojal. Su primer poblamiento se dio a mediados del
siglo XVIII, siendo relativamente tardío si se compara con
otras fundaciones de la región de Occidente; fue ocupada
por mestizos y mulatos procedentes de la ciudad de Santa
Fe de Antioquia, en busca de tierras aptas para el cultivo de
Tabaco. Se reconoce como año de fundación 1773.
Currently, the territories that occupy the municipality of
Olaya belonged to the districts of Sucre and Sacaojal during
the XIX century. Its first settlement was in the middle of
XVIII century, being rather late compared to the foundation
of other places in the western region. It was occupied by
Mestizos and Mulatos coming from the town Santa Fe de
Antioquia, looking for apt lands for tobacco growth. 1773 is
recognized as the year of its foundation.
It is located next to the municipal government seat.
